Wanted to build a "all weather" (for that Alaska trip) .44. Looked around for a 5.5 SBH Stainless to use as a base gun, as I wanted a fluted cylinder and round trigger guard. Found a nice example and sent it John Gallagher for a few modifications.

Wanted to keep it simple, but make it nice to look at as well.
- Action tune, free spin pawl, oversize base pin. This one already locked up tight, so no need to mess with that.
- Cut barrel to 4-5/8", remove "warning billboard".
- Bowen "rough country" rear, Gallagher "U" notch blade.
- Quick change front site (currently wearing gold bead).
- Bevel leading edge of cylinder ("black powder" cut)
- Scallop recoil shield (in theory makes the pistol a bit "lighter", I just like the way it looks).
- Black paper micarta stocks, fitted, bead blasted.

For all of you considering Ruger SA work, I can say with certainty that John Gallagher should be on your list to consider.

That's awesome. I want a custom 44 revolver so bad.

I've been looking at Freedom Arms as well, maybe the 454 so I can shoot 44 through it as well.

But then, for a dangerous game back up gun, a double action like one of those new S&W NightGuards sounds good too.

Anyway you cut it though, that's a beautiful wheel gun.

No doubt, John Gallagher is among the finest individuals and one of the most skilled 'smiths around. Glad to see his work showcased in a forum such as this. His work is worthy.
