Where is the best place to find an authentic WWI or WWII vintage pistol in decent shape?

Best thing to do know is just beat the bushes, check online sources, Gunbroker, AA, GunsAmerica etc. Another overlooked source for good older firearms in general are local "Estate" sales.

I dont know of any "honey holes" of WWI/WWII vintage Colts.

The New Jersey Firearms Guild (in Rahway) has always had a nice selection of vintage 1911's as well as just about any other collectible WWII era military firearm. I haven't been in there in a year but the last time I was they had some really neat stuff including three very early (IIRC pre WWI) 1911's. A quick google will net you a telephone number.

There are always a couple mof GunBroker. There is a 1911 Springfield (no, an actual 1911) for $6250.00 on there right now, It runs for a week at a time and i have seen it on there (repeated) for at least a minth. There was a Remington-Rand and an Ithaca last week.

Awhile ago I posted this site for the discriminating buyer. A beautiful collection that he sells in bits and pieces:

"Was looking for some 1911 rarities and found this site. He sponsored the site for years and is now offering out his collection, at least piece by piece.

I have no connection to him but I thought this might be of interest to some of you with more knowledge of the history of the 1911, and more $$$, than I have."

Click on the red 1911AI down on the bottom left side for what's going now.
