That Colt Agent (1958) is an interesting looking gun. What is that contraption up where the hammer goes? Ive never seen that before. Very nice group of guns. Its also interesting to see a grip safety on those old revolvers.

The "contraption" on the Colt Agent (1968) is a hammer shroud (factory installed).
The hammer shroud made the revolver snag free, and you can still thumb cock it for single action. Similar to the S&W model 38.

I didnt know Colt did that, very cool.

Korey...you can still get the shrouds on the market to install yourself...I cant for the life of me remember who has them (members...help me???) but it's one of the bigger named smiths or distributors.....Cylinder and Slide maybe? It makes a slick little carry gun out of an agent or Detective Special, etc., with one more round than the smith...which I personally prefer (not to start the old Smith vs. Colt debates here!).-John

Only a few of these model 10's were made for the Michigan State Police.

Nice guns. I have a soft spot for S&W wheelguns too. Those are some fine ones. The Colts are very special as well.

And, it's sister, a .22 LR, "Combat Masterpiece" of the same year. It too, is scary accurate.

Ahhh Bocephus old friend! I had forgotten about this post as well, and must have missed that 3 inch Model 64 back then. When I was first out of high school in the late 80's, I took a job with the Virginia Dept. of Parks and Recreation (State Park Service) and they were also carrying that exact weapon. I was young and had the "wonder-nine" bug back in those days and had more than a slight contempt for those little 38's back then and thought it was an odd duty weapon on a Sam Brown belt as well. The VA Park Service didn't even like the idea of having to have law enforcement officers among their ranks in those days (most of the LE certified rangers in our park refused to wear their duty rigs and left the revolvers in the glove compartments of their trucks all day while doing other duties!) and it wasn't until the late 90's that they began to take the law enforcement aspects of the job seriously and begin to train and equip their officers to do the job properly and up to more modern standards.
Now in hindsight, I would certainly love to have one of the few of those marked for the VPS!--John
