I'll tell you guys what I know, which isn't a lot, but I'd like to see what youse may know too.

For the moment I'll just say that I think a long time ago this was owned by a man with long, bushy eyebrows! Also found inside, broken pieces of a hand spring, which had been replaced. It was pretty dirty in there and the DA was not working well.

Not the gun to have when being attacked by droves of death-bent fanatics..... so the history books tell us! .38 Long Colt caliber.

Ned, you are going to make me green with jealousy.

A Colt 1905, Marine Model, with USMC-marked holster?

I hate you.

Now, tell us all the details. Chamber depth, throat diameter, bore diameter, rifling twist, etc. I think I have some .38 Colt ammo on hand, if you plan to test-fire it.

It has come and gone. A local lady had it, a family heirloom. She is concerned about cougars and wondered if it would be adequate.

"If you can get him to stand still with his head tilted back with his mouth open", I said.

I think this basic model was issued to the Army and some to the Navy. Marines maybe got some of the Navies.

From what little reading I did, the so-called USMC model was not issued to the USMC. It was actually a commercial model.

I read many accounts that said the chambers were bored straight through. That I think may have been misinformed people confusing this with the .38 S&W cartridge with the heeled bullet where bullet and case outer diameters are the same.

I did drop a Special in there and it chambered. Not recommended to fire them as the intended .38 LC's are very mild. I did not try a Magnum. Yyyikes if it fits.

This is the one that perfomed so poorly against the Moros in the Phillippines and was the impetus for the "Let's go back to .45 caliber NOW" sentiment. Cue John Moses Browning and the 1911.

If the Moros had been more laid back, LTW might be all about turn-of-the-century .38 revolvers!

Pics are back up...... and, may the best cougar survive!

We are actually in the lower peninsula and there has been a lot of noise about cougars being here. One of those deals where no one has seen one but everyone knows some one who knows some one who has seen one or tracks. And many people make like it's the Department of Natural Resources behind it somehow but they won't talk about it. I dunno..... but I'd love to see one.
