I was looking at Novaks web site and came accross his sight machining/installation instructions. The instructions/diagram shows the centerline of the Novak cut is .770" forward of the rear edge of the slide. That dimension seems too large to me. Being the curious individual that I am. I measured (as best as I could) the approximate centerline of the dovetail on my Novak equipped S&W 1911. It measured approximately .685". What gives? FYI, I'm not a machinist nor do I own any machine tools. I have no desire to butcher any slides. Just wondering why the huge disparity between makers.. Thanks.

Trust the numbers. If you still have doubts, remember one thing...

Trust the numbers.

I believe S&W uses a different sight than the standard low mount.

Perhaps you're forgetting the curve? As you machine down, the rear of the slide in effect moves back.

But, as Ted says, trust the numbers. Wayne has installed more than a few of his own sights.

First employer I ever had said "when all else fails read the instructions". And Ted's right; the S&W 1911 uses the same Novak rear as the 5906 DA 9MM's and it's brethren.
