Anyone a fan of Sambar or Red Stag grips on 1911's? Just recently saw some and thought they looked kinda cool, but are they too slick when wet or not very durable? :?:

Also, are stag grips typically thicker than standard wood grips?

Most of the stag grips you see, especially the old ones, are a bit thicker than standard wood stocks. Its hard to get a piece of stag large enough in circumference to cut and shape into two flat pieces and still keep some bark (the grainy, outer that we like). If you get some cut with little bark or fully polished, I think they would be as 'grippy' as ivory or better, depending on the degree of polish. I've seen some nice ones over the years but don't have any.
