Guys,
I know there are numerous smiths on this forum that do welding on pistols or has it done for them. I'm hopeful that you can share some of your expertise with a newbie to welding on pistols with a TIG.

What type of filler rod do you recommend for carbon steel and what rod for stainless steel?

I'm a little confused since I've heard different types for each, and maybe there isn't enough difference between the types I've heard to make a difference. However, I wanted to hear it from the mouths of people who have the experience welding on pistols.

Here's what I've heard so far.
For Carbon Steel - I've heard either ER70S-2, and I've also heard ER80S-D2.

For Stainless Steel - I've heard ER308 and also ER410.

Which is correct? Or are they both correct?

Thanks for your help.

For carbon steel I use the 3% nickel rod that Brownells sells and I have used both types of stainless rod and use more 308. I also use small mig wire(ss) for very small welds or tight areas.

TIG is one of the two things I don't do here.... and as to rod selection, I really don't know what my guy uses, sorry.
