I was wondering what the experts suggest, get a light weight or all steel frame? I hope to carry and shoot this weapon so should I worry about the light weight frame holding up? I assume the light weight is slightly lighter right? Another question I have is about series 70 vs 80 in relationship to 9mm, from what I gather Colt did not use the new firing pin block safety components as their big brothers got when they switched to series 80 right? If they did switch to new firing pin block what year was that? I just want to narrow my search down to guns sans the new firing pin block. Thanks forany help.

Appreciate the help!
David W.

Full size or Commander size? Springfield has made full size 1911's with the alloy frame, but Colt has never done so. I don't know if Springfield made their full size guns in 9MM with the lightweight frame though. All of Colts '80 series guns have the firing pin block regardless of size or caliber, while SA still clings to the '70 series design (God bless 'em). There is about a 9-10 Oz. difference in weight between the steel and alloy frames.

Mr. Williams,

You pose an excellent question, one in which I totally forgot to mention. I was wanting to know about Commander sizes. Sorry about that.

Thanks,
David W.
