Happy Veteran's Day to all who are and have served. Hopefully we'll take a moment today to remember those who gave it all and those who are no longer with us.

God Bless them all..

I'm late to this thread, but I've been thinking about Veteran's Day quite a bit this month. For any of you who frequent the Larue Tactical website, you've no doubt noticed the picture of Bob Horrigan on the front page. Bob was a fellow warrior who fell in Iraq in 2005. I wasn't on the ground at the time, but those of us who knew him were stunned when we got the news. I pass Bob's picture on the Wall of Honor just outside our JOC here at Fernandez Long-Plank, along with the many from our Task Force who have fallen in service to our Republic. On 11 November I spent quite a bit of time loitering on the steps in front of that wall, taking in the names, some friends, some brothers I have never met, all patriots of the first order. Bob was a warrior of the first order, a gifted human being who was establishing himself as a pretty damn good knife builder. He took the hard route at every turn, from Ranger, to SF, to CAG, and he did it without complaint and out of a sense of duty to his country.

I only get a few moments each day to catch up on the news and visit a few gun forums. I'm reading a lot of rhetoric post-voting day, with a lot of conspiracy theories running around about where this country is heading. But I can tell you right now, that this country will never fail, or falter, or allow anyone or anything to destroy our Constitution, because men like Bob Horrigan are guarding the gates. I think about Bob every time I lace up my boots, holster my sidearm and pick up my M4 to do the night's work, and I'm reminded that like so many before him, one day I too may get the call to come home, and I can only hope that I'll give them hell before I answer that call, just like Bob and so many other heroes before and after him. groundbranch,

You've given me something to reflect on. I count you as one of our nation's hero's, and wish you God Speed as you fight the good fight.

I look forward to thanking you in person in January.

Dave

Dave, good to hear from you brother, and thanks although there's no need. I should be thanking you for your service - paving the way for dudes like me to carry on the fight. Looking forward to seeing you at SHOT. Kinda regret that I'm leaving now - as the SOFA comes to a vote, I have a feeling things are going to be heating up over here.
