I have emailed several revolver smiths, and asked this same question, can anyone clean up , reblue or other finish, my grandads .32 revolver?

I am not worried about antique value, the value is it is still in the family, and still handles .32 shorts just fine.

Hoping there is a revolver smith out there willing to just refinish and tune it, to protect it for my son, and his son ( or daughter ) .

We have a family tradition of handing down the firearms and pocket knives, I have 4 generations of knives and firearms, and I am adding to them.

Rusty,

Call Dave Sams at (804) 375-3782. Tell him what you want and why, and I'm sure he'll do it for you. He may even tune it up a bit if you'd like. He restored my grandfather's 30-30 for me, and it turned out much better than when new. He's also built a few guns for me that look pretty nice, too.

Rusty,

Try Doug Turnbull at Turnbull Restorations. His restorations are geared toward returning guns to their original condition, and he is an expert at period-correct finishing.

wow

I love this forum.

I sent emails to several wel known and heavily advertised revovler guys ( not going to name names, ) and was told that the I&J was a piece of junk, and to scrap it and find a decent smith or colt. Some of them were less than professional.

You guys are amazing.

Thank you

I will call and see who can handle the rebuild. I researched that pistol and it is not a run of the mill production revolver, but was custom ordered, my Granddad was a postal investigator, and it is 100% ORIGINAL. Last time it saw action I was 8 yrs old, and someone had broken into our house while my dad was away. My mom slipped up next to the intruder in the dark and cocked back that hammer, and the intruder wet the floor. It still sounds great and feels smooth after 100 + years.

I called Dave , left him a message, it is after all the weekend, I also looked at Turnbull, wow can we say out of my league over my head and off the planet, those guys are so absolutley mind blowingly talented, it is scary. Wowsers, where do their genetics come from? I cant even use silly putty on the comics page, flunked playdo, and use power tools to make sawdust.

I am not sure my old Iver Johnson is worth their time or effort, those guys restore national treasures.

Seriously, will wait for Dave to call, and if i run across the original sam colt 6 shooter, I know who will restore it. Turnbull.
