COlt + rUGER = COUGER?
I found a Ruger Security-Six mated to a Colt Python barrel and had to bring it home, even if just for oddity's sense. I 've seen the Smith-Python barrel combos regularly over the years, but this is only the second Ruger-Python I've seen. Does anyone know who built these and when? The revolver is done is very well done and has a very high-polish blue finish, except for the matte parts of the rib. There is an added ball-detent on the yoke for lock-up, and the hammer and trigger are jewelled. The double action and single action trigger are nothing short of light and buttery smooth, approaching those of a Custom Shop Python.
(I have some pictures but can't figure out the whole "Picture Hosting Site".)

Thanks for your help. Steve

First heard of these back in the '70s. I think Lou Ciamillo (Maryland Gun Works) may have done some. Possibly Behlert and a few others.

Bill Davis in Northern California built a bunch of Smythons/Smolts and may have built some of these, too.

NEAT Gun!!! I have seen ONE of the "Couger" customs "In Person"--that's what the friend who had it called it--"Co" for "Colt" and "uger" for "Ruger"--but I do NOT know who built his...his was all STAINLESS, BTW, so it musta' been in the late '80's or early '90's when I saw it. Sadly, he has left this world, and I don't know what happened to his guns...
OTOH, earlier posters are correct that the Bill Davis shop built quite a few of these, altho' more were built on the S&W K-frame than on the Ruger DA's...and "MGW" DID build at least a few of 'em as well...IIRC, I saw one "Written Up" by Mas Ayoob in "Combat Handguns" a number of years ago, and, back when I did the "Auction Site" thing--spent WAY too much $$$--I saw at least ONE MGW-built "Couger" for sale back then...HTH....mikey357

I remember reading that Bill Davis built many of these revolvers on Ruger and S&W k-frames , I know he had in interest in a cop shop with George Cake in Berkeley Ca in the late 1970's
