Anyone know of a reputable "smith" that will permanently disengage the "lock" on a Ti Chiefs Special S&W J-Frame?

Go over the the (unofficial) S&W Forum. There is a huge amount of discussion regarding this, and someone makes a plug to fill in the hole.

Thanks guys. I wonder if there are any smiths out there that do it including the plug for a resonable price?

It's REALLY easy. There are Youtube tutorials. You'd be sad if you paid someone to do it and then realized how easy it is.

I can't imagine it would come into play in a shooting....the lock is to keep it from functioning. Once you have decided to use it, the lock had already been disabled.

That is why I went with a new model 40 though...no lock.

Pretty much spot on.

I got a local guy to do it. It took him about 5min with a file. No matter if the key is turned it will never lock. He is going to replace all the MIM with real steel parts from another old school J-Frame too. Best part he didn't charge me a dime to do it..

There is a youtube video on how to do it yourself, it's pretty easy.
