Hi, all -

I have fallen in love with this revolver; it was apparently a 66-5 that was refined by Vic Tibbets and sold by Wilson Combat. Does anyone have one? Ever see them come available on the used market? I'm interested in any information about it; was it available in different lengths or just 3"? Any idea of how many were sold?

I've seen exactly one of those and it wasn't for sale. Mr. Yost and Co. on here do a nice Model 65.

Those were nice revolvers while they were available, but Gunfighter is right...Mr. Yost also does a beautiful one as well and I've always loved the Model 65's better than the 66 myself. I'll post the link from an older post to one of their in a few minutes. Best regards-John

Christina- Here is the thread I was talking about with the Heirloom Model 65's. I'd also suggest that it you are dead-set on the Model 66 you should contact Mr. Yost or Burton on here and ask if they can build what you want/need. Both are fantastic gentlemen and true artisans! John, Thank you so much for the kind insights. That 65 is gorgeous. May I ask why you prefer the 65 over the 66? I actually have an older, everyday shooter 66 no dash, a police turn-in. I was under the impression that the only major difference was the adjustable sights on the 66 (which I like, as I am a target shooter). What are the other distinctions? If you don't mind explaining, I greatly appreciate the information.

The 66 is available in 2 1/2", 4", 6" and 3", the 3" is very rare.

The 65 is available in 3" and 4" and only with fixed rear sight.

Some prefer 65 in carrry gun in its 3" version because the 3" is the shortest barrel length that allow FULL length ejection stroke. Guns such as the 66 with a 2 1/2" barrel does not allow full length ejection, therefore it doesn't allow as positive ejection as the longer guns.

Training can overcome this shortfall.

Regardless of what you have, check with the Heirloom Precision craftsman and you can get yours done or find someone with one in line you may opt for instead.

Christina....I never really thought much about WHY I prefer one over the other, other than I like the bull barrel of the 65 (personal preference) and I carried a bull barrel Model 10 (.38 Special only) as a woods gun for years so I guess it was a matter of "go with what you know" in my case. The link I posted is of Terry's wife's Model 65 and the links he gave you are also good info, he's a great guy and can probably give much better insight on the customizations, and I agree with what he said, as well as Smooth One's good notes too.
Check with Ted and the masters at Heirloom and I'd bet they could do about anything you want and will give you excellent advice as far as a build. I'd also like to wish you the best and welcome to the page!--John

Looking at the pictures of this Heirloom M65, now I'M getting interested - and I thought I got K-Frames out of my system a long time ago...

Who made the grips on that 65? Can they be purchased?

Grips are Craig Spegel but the Heirloom guys hand fit them perfectly to each gun.
