Working outside my usual medium of the 1911, but it is a Colt!

This gun has floated around my shop for a few years disassembled in a zip lock bag, with a few broken or missing parts. I finally found or built what I needed to get in back up and running, only took 10 years or so.

Great looking gun. The slabbed barrel fits the look. Unfortunately I never could get used to the feel of Colt grip profiles.

I slabbed it because it was so far out of round and had a huge scratch in one side it was the cleanest fix. I am really happy with the result.

Well dang it, I have such a respect and admiration for our Michigan State Police / Troopers that just the name "Trooper" has me predisposed towards liking it, which I do. Clever way to recover from the damage and a mod that has other merits as well.

I had forgotten that Troopers were not Magnums, what's the other Python-ish but duty-oriented one, the Highway Patrolman?

The Colt Trooper Mk III was offered in .357, .38, .22 Magnum and .22LR. It suffered in comparison to the Python, and the action wasn't so easy to slick up as an s&W K-frame, so they were an overlooked item in the marketplace of the 1980s.

The caliber markings were destroyed before I slabbed them off, so playing it safe I marked it 38special. Even though I think it’s actually a 357... Pat you are correct slicking this up wasn’t as neat easy and simple as a S&W but I got it cleaned up and it’s smooth and crisp now. Much like my buddy Ned, I have a soft spot for saving guns I probably shouldn’t... I kinda blame Ned for it, and hours of discussion about Johnson machine guns last summer with Valo didn’t help much
