Fortunately for me I was asked to post a couple of pictures of Jerry Keefer's work. These are the pictures he sent me. The gun looks fantastic. Thanks for sending them Jerry and welcome to LTW. It is nice to have some additional revo smiths here.

I live not too far from Jerry and have heard many, many great comments about him and his pistols, but had never seen any of his work. This is wonderful!

Thanks Steve.

Jerry,

I have heard of some custom barrels that you have made for PPC competition for 6 inch long slide 1911 in 9 mm.

Could you post some pictures of those? Somebody told me that you turn your own barrels for the 6 inch 9 mm guns and do some sort of magic for the lock-up of those barrels. Please share.

Lester

Thanks for the kind words; No, I don't make my own 1911 barrels.
The guns that won all the accolades and set the World Two Man Team record in 2001 were fitted with 9mm Les Baer barrels. It created quite a stir then, as no automatic had ever won the event in the history of the championships, let alone a 9mm. Today, good 9mms are shooting less than an inch groups at 50yds. If I have any "magic" I give credit to the bechrest rifle machinists. I study their methods and pick the brains of some of the top guys. They take enormous pains to center and align the x & y axis of the bore C/L with the receiver/chamber/crown. Contrary to most pistolsmiths who focus only on the y axis and ream by hand in a vise, and thats o.k. for the average gun, but not for record breakers. I built fixtures that enable me to do the same as the rifle machinists, with revolver and 1911 barrels. I ream and cut from aligned machine centers on all three axis'. The fixture is completely adjustable to within one or two tenths of one thousandths.
I also experiment with headspace/reamer dimensions/throat/forcing cone angles. 1911's have very generous headspace dimensions, which are detrimental to precision accuracy. Minimum headspace/ match chamber dimensions/throat angles and careful case selection can produce outstanding accuracy in a handgun as well as a rifle.
Sorry about the lack of photos..
I never have bought a digital camera. Those pictures were taken about a year ago by past National Champion, Mike Talbert, who really likes those big guns..and the kind effort of Steve to post them..

Thanks

Jerry
