Not a custom, but they only made 'em a couple of years - if that counts... The Mountain Gun that coulda' been / Shoulda' been / But never was!

A real sweet shooter, in .44 SPL.

That 624 doesn't need to be customized. It's perfect the way it is.

Not true...not true..... to be perfect, it would have to be a blued, 4" model 24 with Herrett "Roper" grips...... :D

Perhaps I mis-spoke. I should have said almost perfect.

I don’t have any Herrets, but will these suffice?

Yeah, I suppose they would do in a pinch.... :D Are the top ones Keith Brown Ropers? I had a set of Bear Hugs (by Ted Adamovich) and they didn't fit my hand very well. I haven't had the opportunity to try out any Deacon Deason originals.

Aww, you guys are killin' me! Bought this puppy from a gent (original owner) down in Kennesaw, GA, right after the 1st of the year.

Came w/ factory targets, but ordered a set of rosewood laminates from Badger Grips cause they suit me better.

Paid just a bit too much, but had to have it. Owner stated 200 rounds total, & it shows. Action has been..... finessed.

The .44 SPL is really an under rated caliber. Accurate (even w/ crappy factory ammo) through the entire load range. Haven't done much load work yet, but it appears that w/ the right powder, an accurate 900 - 950 fps hunting or defensive load should be attainable - w/ out pressure stressing the revolver.

Yeah, they are Keith Browns, and the Bear Hugs are originals. They were once on a gun owned by a friend of Keiths who recommended them to the guy.
GCF, try 7.5 grs Unique with the Keith bullet. Perfection!

I love my 3" Horton 624 with its factory finger groove RB grips. And Marsh, I agree that your load is a fine one in it as well. I believe they would sell a bunch of them if issued again (blue or SS) and a much nicer piece IMO than the Thunder Ranch gun.

I was a heathen in a former life, and misunderstood the .44 Special.. Pased up on a closeout sale of these M624's at about $225 OTD.

But, being older, and a littlebit smarter, I now have a 4" M24 (with Fitz cherrywood Gunfighter grips), and a 16" M92 .44 Special to pair up with it. Still want more!! of these too....

Congrats on your 624, I wish I had one or two! of those 4"ers.

Beautiful guns!
All of them!
Nice pictures too.

Man, I love 24/624s!
I never had one, but always liked them. I thought they were just the classiest looking revolver ever. I read everything by Skeeter Skelton I could get my hands on, so that probably caused my interest.

I missed the boat when they made the run of 624s, as I was making peanuts at the time. So, when the 696 (5-shot .44 Spl L-frame) came out, I was determined not to miss out on that chance at a 44 Spl. I got one, and love it. I seldom shoot revolvers bigger than J-frames anymore, but love that 696.
It shoots that 7.5 Unique load mentioned above just fine.

I know you can get decent 44 Spl carry ammo now, but never being satisfied, I do have a dream loading I'd like to see- A 200-210 grain, SWC-HP Nyclad bullet, at around 900-1000 fps. Mmmm boy.

I love those 4" pencil barrels. I picked up a 624 4" many yrs. ago at a gunshow for $250. and it looked like a stepchild with Pachmayr rubber on. Wood makes the difference

I have one set of 'Skeeters' made by Deacon for me and they are handfilling. I also had Blu Magnum make a set which are very skinny and unsatisfactory for shooting. I also had a real bad time even getting Ted to answer an email......extremely poor business man. Taffin keeps talking him up so I guess John must get good treatment

I really love those KBs, Marsh! Keith recently told me he was ready to make mine.
