It's been kind of dead here in the revolver section, so I thought I would add a little color. This is my Dave Clements Ruger Old Model Blackhawk in .44 Special. The grips are from Lett. My every day load is 7.5gr of Unique behind a Keith 250 SWC, but it REALLY likes the "Uncle Elmer Commerative Load" of 18.5gr of 2400 and the Keith 250gr SWC. With that load, it will stack them into the same hole at 25 yards, if you do your part (and you can hang onto it!)

Oh I like that one!
I grew up reading Skeeter Skelton stories, and it's hard to do that without wanting an OM Blackhawk 44 Spl conversion.

When I heard that Ruger would be making the new Vaquero in the "proper" size, my first thought was: "OM Blackhawk", and, "I wonder if they will make it in .44 Special with adj sights?"

No such luck. However, I know of at least two .44 Special conversions that have been done on the new Flattops, and Ruger will be making them in .44 Magnum next year (but on the larger frame)

Are those S&W adjustable rear sights? Do yo have an overhead pic of how they were blended into the top strap?

I had Andy Horvath build me a 4" .44 Special on an OM.357. He used a Douglass barrel and it is very accurate. I have also noticed over the years that it chronoes higher velocities than much longer factory barrels.

Bob.

Bob,

That is one of Hamilton Bowen's target rear sights. This was built a couple of years before Bowen came out with their "Rough Country" sight.

I really like it I was thinking of sending him my OM for a 44 special conversion.

If I was in the market for another OM BH .44 Special conversions, Dave would still be at the top of the list. I have a couple of other SA projects kicking around in my head and if they ever come to fruition, Dave will be getting a call.

That's a nice one mossyrock. You should send it to me for safe keeping....... :D

Glad it likes Elmer's old 'standard load'. That load has long been one of my favorites for reaching out and fetching something.

Well, I'm afraid I can't do that.... I have a couple of ammo cans full of .44 Special reloads that I need to go through. Then I have all of that empty brass to deal with... I swear, it's a never ending cycle!! :D I was going through my reloading stuff the other day and I was a little surprised to discover that I have more .44 Special brass than any other caliber. That's saying something considering I have about 3,000 rounds of .45 ACP brass and almost that much 10mm!

its the gunners crack, the monkey on our back, I cant wait to get hooked. I am trying to work a deal for a progressive and some .45 dies, because the more you make the more you can shoot. Will also hope to get some .357 dies once I decide to go full tilt with a lever action .357 and a wheelie in .357.

Maybe we need an exchange forum or a swap forum.

why is it we like things that are curved, and things that go boom?

Nice, Wayne. Dave is very talented. I have a rifle converted by him, and he is a good guy to work with. The 44 is s sweet round.

Mossyrock. I love your Special and also like the lanyard ring. Is that an original off a 1917? Bowens are round, but I like your rectangular shape better.

Marsh,

Yes, that is an original 1917 lanyard ring. To me, the round one only looks correct on a Webley. :D
