I'm looking at the "extreme duty fixed sight" from Cylinder & Slide for my 625 (model 1988) and want to check to see if anyone here is using it. Looks to be a good option over standard Smith & Wesson adjustable sights for a tactical revolver.
Are they a direct replacement with out alterations to the rear sight area on the frame or the front sight? :?

Thanks
G

I think the fixed sights are a great idea for a J-frame or like a 2" K-frame pocket revolver with adjustable sights but for a 625 I dont know. If it were me I would stick with the adjustables especially if you reload or shoot a variety of bullet weights. You also didn't mention if the gun was 45acp or long colt but either way with 45's shooting different bullet weights plays hell with the point of impact. But to answer your question about mounting, the versions I have seen mount the same way as your factory sights with a single screw. And if not it is really easy and quick to modify the top strap to accept the location of the new sights screw. Just about any local smith could do the work. My experience with cylinder and slide parts is they are first rate. With the front sight, if your front is pinned it is easy to change them, if not and you want to change it it will have to be modified. I personally use a pinned patridge sight on the front of all my revos. If you can post a picture of your gun I would like to see it. I have only ever owned one N-frame and it was a 4" 625 in 45acp it was an awesome gun but I hated the moon clip thing. Anyway hope this helps.

I have shot with C&S Extreme Duty sights and they are outstanding if you set them for your carry/duty ammo. The sight picture is very clean and reminds me of Novaks.

As far as modifications, give Bill a call at the shop or check the web site. I don't recall the specifics.

The only modification is for older guns with the non-drilled for scope
mounts type top-strap. I've had them on a 610 and liked them very
much!

You might also give very serious consideration to Hamilton Bowen's Rough Country adjustable rear sight - excellent sight picture with several different blade options, and tough as a tank. Check them out at http://www.bowenclassicarms.com
Installation uses factory mounting and takes just a few minutes.
Good luck

I've seen them and I like them. As someone who's seen K frame sights go belly up,(I started my law enforcement career way back when "they" issued revolvers) I can appreciate a rugged fixed sight for carry use.

Thats why OCPD issued us S&W model 65's. Of course sighting in consisted of twisting barrels and filing front sights.

on a 625 Model of 1988 would fit fine and you would have to drill and tap a screw hole for the top strap. I had this done on my 625-3 Model of 1989 3" so I could carry it without snagging the sights on clothes. I also had a hammer bobbed for the same reason. I've kept all the original parts.

The question you'll have to deal with is finding ammo that shoots POA. With all the many varieties of .45 ACP ammo, that should be fun work
