according to the standard catalog of SW 2nd edition

629-1 were produced starting in 1982

5,000 were produced in 1985 with a 3" barrel and round butt with a product code of 103610.

In the 629 variations section, it makes reference the following info

Model 629-1 Combat Magnum
3" standard barrel, special run of 5g for Lew Horton, red ramp on ramp base front sight, white outline rear, .312" smooth combat trigger, .400" semi target hammer, goncalo alves smooth wood combat grips with a serial number prefix ANCxxxx produced in 1985.

the book never made mention of "Effector" so it was not a joint effort with SW.

I have no Jovino info.

hope this helps.

I remember the Jovino adds from the gun rags back in the 70s or 80s. He used to run one in Shotgun News. As I recall, he specialized in chopped big bore revos.

He also sold an Astra large frame snubby .44 mag called a Terminator, I think. I owned one back in the mid 80's.

I've seen a few Effector pistols, but never a 629. Jovino was the man responsible for the Effectors.

Post this question over at the S&W Forum , lots of good folks and info over there.
