Hey Jason!

Here is a blast from the past!

ASP in WI did a very small number of conversions based on a Ruger Speed Six call the SWT. They were converted to a five-shot .44 Special. Bob Snap did much of the actual work.

The one shown was specially made for Ken Null when he was making all the leather for ASP. It is marked "KLN-1" on the right side of the frame, ahead of the trigger guard.

Note how THIN the cylinder wall is and the individually number cylinders.

Leather is by TR.

Enjoy,

Rob

Boy, that takes me back! I had read about them, but never seen one. I bet it's a joy to shoot. Got a report?
I believe that Spokehandguns was doing a similar conversion on the Six Series about that same time. Got one of those to share?

Zowie! Those walls are thin!

Yeah, I can vaguely recall an article in American Handgunner about 1980 or so with an ASP .44 Spl, a couple of the Spokandguns conversions (I think they were N-frames in .44 Spl and .45 Colt???), and maybe a third- by maybe 300 Guns or someone. It was more of a two-page photo spread than an article.

Neat find.

What a beauty. That's my kind of gun. I have an old
issue of Combat Handguns that has a feature on that piece.
I should have sold one of my kids to get one.

Wait...HER cylinder walls are thin, too???!!! I'm so shocked! :P

I remember when those came out. I thought they were pretty cool but couldn't see the use for them as a "SWAT" arm. S&W reintro'd the M24s about the same time (Thank You, Skeeter!) and although on an N frame, I just couldn't see the need for the ASP, at least not as "SWAT" revolver. Should've used a different approach, but hey, they were out of business soon after anyway, IIR.

A10ACN,

These pistols were meant to be the ultimate belly and concealment revolver, not a SWAT Team pistol. They were called SWT. I do not know what that stood for. Somehow, people started calling it a swat from that.

Glad you enjoyed the post.

Rob

I remember seeing one of those in an article back in the day. That was about the time I started my LEO career. I really wanted one of those for a belly gun. Thanks for the memories.

Toro.......

Sorry to ignore your question on how it shoots. I don't know. As much as I hate to admit it, I have never shot it in the many years I've owned it. I need to get some .44 spl. Cowboy loads and go have fun with it. If I do, I'll let you know. In the mean time, I have a new S&W Nightguard in .44 spl based on an L-frame on order. That one I will shoot.

Regards,

Rob
