A large bundle of the "raw materials" should be getting here today, then to be distributed to the participating 'smiths. Sparks and chips will be raining down on shop floors early next week.

The same is happening with getting the raffle up and running. There is always a lag getting something like this started as the LTW gears find a mesh with the beneficiary gears. They are starting to mesh and we will be getting power to the ground in a few weeks or so.....

I'll be posting some more sniper / precision riflery trivia / brain teasers in the near future, or some other kind of fun stuff, by which you guys might win some more tickets.

Hello All,

Just wanted to check in and introduce myself. My name is Ken Darnell from AmericanSnipers.org. I am also a full time police officer and SWAT Sniper. I will be working with Ned and the LTW crew to get this pistol raffled off and raise money for much needed gear.

I want to thank everyone on this site for your support in this endeavor. We are able to do good things because of the support given by patriotic Americans. Currently AmericanSnipers.org is supporting over 250 platoons of snipers and DM fighting for our freedom and we will continue to do so until every last one of our warriors are home. Check out our website and see who we are and why this organization exists.

I am really exicted about this pistol. Ned and I have talked and he gave me his ideas, this thing is going to rock.

We should have and raffle site up and running in about two weeks or so. We are waiting for a few things to fall in place before we light this thing off.

Thank again for your support.

Ken

I scored some of EGW's great 1911 components yesterday.... an oversized firing pin stop, trigger, extractor (the gun will have two spares), and a barrel bushing. Think there mighta been something else..... George at EGW makes some really good parts that are part of each and every project here (especially the FP stop). Thanks for helping out, George!

And...... I called an old friend at Armor Holdings to find out who the guy would be to go to, to request a holster for the project. Turns out my friend is the guy, and so, we have a commitment from Safariland for the 6004 holster.... thanks Arnt!

I predict a good turnout on ticket buying on this one from the old, fat, former SWAT guys club....................

got the package from EGW the other day:
2 fiing pin stops
1 extractor
2 triggers
1 barrel bushing

....the gun will be fitted with a total of three extractors. lots of extra parts will be part of the deal. Remember, we're approaching this as if it were being built for one of the guys the raffle is meant to benefit. Wouldn't it be cool if it somehow actually wound up in the hands of one of these guys?

I asked George at EGW for two triggers since we don't know who will wind up with the gun and what their long/short trigger preference might be. I like these since they have an overtravel stop that is just a protrusion from the trigger shoe-- not a screw. File or machine it to length and no worries. Been waiting for that to come out for a longtime!

George's new heavy duty extractor is interesting. The cuts behind the knuckle are not there, and really, I'm not sure why they ever were. The claw area is broad and perfectly shaped.

I want to expound a bit on my shallow explanation of all the spares. We're building towards a scenario where, if a guy loses a pin, or slide stop, or something, while maintaining the pistol rumbling down an almost-road in a Humvee after dark, he will have some spares.

Update: As mentioned above, we have a commitment of support from Wilson Combat on the frame and slide. They have a new, exclusive source for these . They are not coming from any of the traditional sources, you might as well say they are from "in house" from what I understand. Anyway-- the frames are something to behold. All outer contours are CNC'd with carbide ball end mills as opposed to being shaped with big rounding cutters. So, they are very clean and very precise, as this process imparts almost no tool pressure. Anyhoo-- they are not yet making light rail frames, and we have our hearts set on just that. Railed frames are still in the works, ETA not chiseled in stone.... plus, they're going to do carbon steel first, stainless (what we want for this project) second. We might be looking at anothercouple months before we have a frame and slide...... I'm going to monitor WC on the progress of this (OK, let's be honest here, I'm going to pester the hell out of them). That frame and slide will be worth waiting for, to a point, but it won't be easy as we really wanted to bust out of the gate with roar on this one. We'll make 'er happen one way or another.

Rest assured that although there may not be daily updates, the raffle itself is under construction and will soon be up!

Black Hills Ammunition just signed on to contribute a case of ammo to the package!

Jeff at BH told me that American Snipers was one of his favorite charities, so this was an easy one :) . Thanks Jeff!

I think Caspian has helped us in the past and I'm sure they will again in the future-- we're not necessarily "locked in" with WC on this one but that is still the plan.

Thanks to Brownell's for the box I just received, some parts for 4TC1s:

Screws and bushings
(3) recoil springs
YoBo rear sight
YoBo front sight
YoBo hammer, sear, disconnector set
Grace screwdriver for the tool kit
Bore brushes for the cleaning kit

I've worked with Brownells now from both ends-- as their customer and them as mine..... they are probably the most up-front and scrupulous company I've ever dealt with in any industry-- thanks guys.

Ned,
I'm still out here. I'll be sending you a present soon. You know how fired up I am about these good causes. We should have near perfect alignment by SHOT 2008. You really seem fired up about this build. I can't wait to see the finished product. I suspected that WC frame I saw was a sign of things to come. I hope he gets you a railed framed. I wouldn't want to guess at the amount of CNC machine time that frame takes. It says a lot that he is donating those very expensive components for the cause. Everyone on the board owes WC a fresh look as he seems to be re-inventing his product line. Good for him, good for LTW. Talk to you soon.

LTS

Indeed, Tim. I don't want this thing to be a big commercial, but I can't say enough how much the support of these companies is appreciated. And it's a good feeling to know that each of these outfits has a record of and reputation for making good stuff and treating people right.

Update, folks. I think we are about to wind up having to start without the stainless, railed frame-- the timing just was not right. They are just not quite up and running yet with those-- railed carbon steel frames are almost red-to-go but SS and railed were last on the list and we need to get the meat and potatoes going here. Butcha know what? That's not such a bad thing really. We'll put a Dawson or YoBo rail on there and have duped what USMC Force Recon is using and having no troubles with.

I'll have the for-sure answer on this next week.

OK..... here's what's been going on. We have a large contingent of supporters in CA, and just due to the way things go sometimes, we have not always been able to offer raffle guns that were CA approved. Long story short-- making sure that 4TC1s can be had in CA has become the number-one consideration, and...... as Yul Brenner said, so it shall be written, so it shall be done. Springfield is on board with a Mil Spec base gun, and we are off and running with it. It's no big surprise to have them jump in and help, now, is it? They've always been there for the shooting sports and worthy causes. Thanks Dave!

Specs will otherwise be the same, and the Wilson frame and slide, well, we're still anxious to snatch those as soon as they are available for another LTW project.

Carry on!

The BarSto barrel came yesterday and the base gun, our friends at SA's Custom Shop are fixing us up with a hand-made MilSpec, so that we can start out with a really good slide to frame fit.

I have just submitted an article to SWAT Magazine about the raffle, so stay tuned.

Here's a little teaser-- showing what may be Mr. Nossar's contribution to the package, which readers will recall is to include a Safariland 6004 duty holster and accessories..... but also a Nossar concealment rig, in keeping with our theme of "as if the package were going to be put to use in the war zone". The Nossar rig would be for stylin' 'round the base 8) and for when the user gets home.

The sharkskin will be left more of a natural color as opposed to being dyed black or brown, for blending in better with the surroundings. And since the pistol will be equipped with a light rail, the double mag pouch will have a place to attach the light.....enjoy....

I dunno-- Alex, got an answer? 10mm?

Here are a few pics of some Nossar T-shirts with some other stuff holding them down.....

Alex heard there was a Chris Reeve knife involved and wanted to make a sheath for it. He just happened to have a pal who had received one as a gift from some US guys working down there. Alex has friends, and his friends have friends!
