This is a little LTW project that's been going on in the background for a while. So..... a good friend and LTW supporter sent me this Police Magnum one day and said, "do something with it that will benefit LTW and/or an LTW beneficiary". It started out as a State Highway Patrol shotgun.....it's been customized a bit, with a lot of support from outfits that do 870 accessories, plus a few others:

It started out like this:


This is the boltface as reveived. I don't think it'd had 50 rounds through it. Test fired only maybe.....?


The Vang sight and chromed bolt. The stock is going to be changed although this pistol-gripped Speed Feed unit is not bad at all. It's just that it and the fore-end had a few minor dings from the cruiser rack.


And.... that sight is not just screwed on. It is truly knock-proofed by two tubular dowels.... so even with the EoTech on there and heavy-recoiling loads, nothing is going anywhwere.


The barrel was shortened a bit and the old front sight has been replaced with my trademark shotgun front sight, an AR15 front sight tower cut and radiused, and silver-brazed in place. Gives the user a lot of flexibility in elevation adjustment and in terms of what kind of front sight post is used:


If "silver brazed on" doesn't sound strong, bear in mind that that is how the old front and rear sights were attached, and the underlug that attaches the barrel to the receiver via the mag tube threads is also silver brazed on.

More details later, I am awaiting new furniture ....... just thought I'd share the wait with you guys.....

I haven't even coordinated this with ILA but happened to be talking to a friend today who works at NRA, his response was that shhyeah, they'll be most happy to receive the check!

Yes. And I just received, from XS Sight Systems, their Big Dot night sight to put in there..... perfect for a shotgun.

Now here's a front sight that is perfect for a shotgun such as this-- thanks again to XS sights for the contribution.

I should have the stock and fore end next week, at which time I'll get a few more pics up with the EoTech mounted, and get it in the "for sale" area...... first I need to figure out what to ask for it....... then get it...... then send the proceeds to the outfit that's letting us be heard in Washington.

I got the OK to say where this came from-- LTW supporter Mark Graff donated it after buying it from the Wyoming Highway Patrol. It is in fact engraved "WHP" with their rack number.

Whoever buys it, if their inititals are WHP, there will be a $50 upcharge

Actually I have not really done my homework yet as to how to price it-- obviously the brand-new EoTech adds several hundred.

Actually, my initialls are WHP. And my sons name is Remington! What a perfect shotgun! The raffle idea would be great but I may have to consider this one.

DrDremel,are you serious? I think we need to find out what date this shotgun was made..... if it was on young Remington's birthday, you need to get this thing right away or the whole universe could go into a reverse spin!

Sorry this is taking so long, guys-- waiting for the final parts, a stock set from Hogue-- they did send it already but it was for a Mossberg. Sent it back, waiting for the right one.

I still need to do my homework with regards to setting the price. I'm not up to speed on what tricked out 870's go for.....suggestions via Email are welcome.

Well it depends on the funds when it is finished. It is going to a good cause. I am serious about my initials and yes, my son's name is Remington. He is 11. As for this one, I think I'd keep it for myself, since it has my initials. For his first shotgun, I was going to get an 870 engraved with his last name in the same script as the Remington on the side of a shotgun. The funny part about the name is that my wife liked it. She picked the name from the hunter in The Ghost in the Darkness, the story of the Lions of Tsavo in Africa that was made into a movie with Val Kilmer and Michael Douglas. I'm a second generation gun guy, instructor and all so I had no problem with it! He learned to spell his name from a gun box that I gave him. I'm in Southeast Michigan so it would be a nice trip to pick it up.
