Another post got me thinkin' I should make a recommendation...

I took a chance and spent $56 for a brand new holster from http://www.nm-holsters.com/home . Can't remember, but I think he charged me an extra $8 to "customize" it by reinforcing the mouth for one-handed insertion. I had the holster in 7 days. His estimate is 2-4 DAYS plus shipping! He doesn't have a big selection, but if you're looking for an IWB, he might be the One :D.

I got so fed up waiting for a couple others, I thought, hell, it's only $50, I got a drawful of $90 holsters I don't like... but Nick's work is fantastic. I'm no longer using my AKJ Concealco IWB (my favorite for its' ability to pull the gun tight to the body), because the NM holster has a better cant. Nick's example is better than a Sparks VM2 or the Watch Six in my opinion. (They're both on my desk, waiting for me to get motivated enough to put them up for sale along with a buncha other stuff. So are my bulky BIG name holsters--you know, the names bandied about on this forum.)

Take a chance; he's a brand new guy lookin' to break into the field, and I'd recommend his work any day if you're looking for an IWB.

Really??? How so??? While I respect your opinion I have to ask, really?

I will say that I have not seen one of this Nick fellows holsters but just from looking at the pictures on his site I see nothing that comes even close to comparing to the fit, finish, and detail of a Sparks product. I don't mean this to be taken as bashing the young man as I'm sure he's trying very hard but just look at the pictures and notice, as an example, on many of the holsters the stitching line is spaced quite far from the molding of the gun, in my experience that's not good for long term use. Now look at a comparable holster from Sparks, or Alessi, or Bulman, and so on... I would make the same comparison with regards to finish, edge detail, etc. Again, I'm not trying t start a pissin' contest, this is just one mans opinion but there appears to be no comparison, at least from pictures.

Hey dork, let me know when you put all all those other holsters up for sale. :D

NM holsters is at the beginning of his run, it looks like. I'm sure he'll improve as others have done, with time. Right now, however, he's nowhere near the level of Sparks, Alessi, etc. If you asked him, I'm sure he'd agree with you. Thanks for the info.

Hmm. My Sparks are "sloppy". They're not that old, either. I only have shorter and longer 1911's, and I haven't been stuffing the holsters with KZ-45's or light-railed guns either. I'm not posting this to start a feud, but I'm sure disappointed with the Sparkses--they got soft and pliable quickly; I found the Bulman PDL to be really bulky (it prints all by itself behind my pocket ) though I really, REALLY like his TSAC when I'm wearing sweat pants or something without belt loops.

I found this NM holster to be extremely comfortable, tight, and it has a steeper cant, which helps hide better for me. Maybe it's too soon to pass judgment against his competition since I've only worn it for a couple weeks now, but I sure like the way it hides more than any other IWB I've tried.

Fair enough... although I wasn't addressing holster design(s) since those things are quite subjective and vary from person to person... not all holsters work for all people, nor are they all concealable on all body types or under all levels of concealment. I was more or less commenting on the details, craftsmanship, and overall quality of work based on the pictures present on Nick's website. Based on those pictures alone I still don't see any comparison between those holsters and anything from Sparks, Bulman, etc.... but I'm happy you like your new rig.

About 13 years ago, I took a chance on a "New" holster maker and orderd a belt and holster for the sig 229 that my police department made me carry at the time.

I saw a short article about him in Handguns magazine. At the time the internet was no big deal and the maker was considered a new comer to the field while he still worked as a Captain I believe with his police department.

It took 6 weeks to get, and If I recall I think I paid about $65.00 for the holster and about $50.00 for the belt.

In 1993 as a new cop making $25,000 a year with a new wife and a new dog that was alot of money.

Now I sold the holster, kept the wife, the dog died but we had two kids and I went to law school and am a local prosecutor.

I still have the belt and that same maker refinished it for free for me.

The Belt is still in great shape and I wear it everyday in court
that "new guy" was Matt Delfatti.

My point is All of the great ones started as new guys.

Good luck to Nick - I may give him a call myself, I could use a new belt.

Well thank you Rob! Pretty good memory. I'd been building holsters for a number of years at that point but the first national exposure was in the form of an article by Jerry Ahern. I was the Chief Deputy for our Sheriff's Department When I built that first rig for you but I think you got everything else right. Not bad for a rapidly aging man such as yourself :D

Hey Rob:
Well now, there'd probably be some who felt that way about me in our department.

Wow!!

Thanks Dork, I really appreciate the good words. I am with you on design. I wear the same one your wearing and it conceals very well under a normal fitting shirt. However, I have to agree with the others. There is no way I could ever personally compare my work with Milt Sparks, or Alessi, or any of the gentlemen that have made this industry what it is.

Thank you all for your support,
Nick.
