Get a stitch marking wheel, a pack of needles, thread and a book called "The art of hand stitching leather" by Al Stohlman at your local Tandy/Leather Factory.

Has everything you need. Those little gizmos for doing a lockstitch by hand don't work very well.

Thanks John,

I am searching for a copy of the book now. I don't have a local Tandy.

John, I was wondering if I could trouble you with one more questions. What "type" and how much leather do you think I should start out with?

The Tandy web site as so many it made my head hurt.

A holster will take about 1 Sq-Ft give or take, so not much really (I assume that is what you plan to make - I would NEVER hand stitch a belt!).

As for the type - they should have some 8-9 oz. "Holster Leather" listed. You need something that is really firm and will mold nicely and keep its shape. I used whatever I could get when I was doing it for a hobby, so I don't think you could mess up too badly anyway. A nice clean back is also a big plus - ask for something that doesn't have all the "Strings" on the back.

If you get into a pinch, just shoot me an email.

John

Rob....just did a Google on the book title and there are tons of them listed on E-Bay and elsewhere. I have had really good luck finding bargains on books on E-bay...best of luck, and I get one of the first holsters off the line!!--John

Rob...the 229 isn't going to happen for me right now...dont have anything to trade and money is non-existant right now, just had three more surgeries in the last 2 weeks (including on Christmas Eve!) so that pretty well puts it out for now.
As for the holster..I think I would love a shark on shark holster (sharkskin holster made by a land-shark...err, ATTORNEY friend of mine...lol)
