Since this thread has got a bit more action I think I should point a few things out about two of the rigs pictured.
First the ankle holster... I really think this is something that people might not pay enough attention to and, while I’m not a fan of ankle carry as a
primary mode of toting around ones piece, for a back up gun its tops, IMO. I had been wearing that ankle holster for about 18 months when that picture was taken. I’ve worn it in almost every imaginable circumstance including rain, snow, mud, while training, working, or just lollygagging out in the field... if I’m wearing pants you can be guaranteed I’m wearing that rig with a S&W 442 or 642 tucked inside. This holster has proven indestructible (believe me I’ve tried to break it) and although it’s an open top it gives up no retention qualities to similar designs that make use of retention straps. Worn on the inside of ones support side leg, the gun is accessible with either hand and I can think of no other way I would rather be carrying a back up piece... this is one tuff rig! Now if I could only get Lou to make me one for my S&W 29 I’d be set.
Second is the AR15 mag pouch... Like the ankle holster this is something I seldom see people pay any mind to. In today’s world of “load bearing†this and “tactical drop leg†that what people often loose sight of is what is truly practical. I think Lou’s AR15 mag carrier is a fitting definition and anyone who uses an AR should have one. I don’t plan on sustaining any long engagements should I have the misfortune of being forced to use my AR but what I would like is to have at least one reload on board. The AR mag carrier Lou has crafted quickly and easily snaps onto the belt and stays securely put via one-way snaps but what’s best is just how concealable this rig can be. The ride height and retention of the pouch make it easy to hide either a 20rd or 30rd AR mag under just a t-shirt, that’s no BS. The pouch is fast to draw from and uses the same set of motions pistol shooters should already be familiar with but best of all one doesn’t need to put on any special belt or 42 pounds of load bearing vest just to have a spare AR mag. Ahh... practicality!!
