I’ve got enough gun leather stashed away to outfit a small police department  ... but being a holster junkie has its advantages. Here are a few of my favorite rigs from our esteemed Mr. Alessi.

Holster Junkie. I prefer to address you as a Leather Snob. I stopped by while the photo session was in progress. There was enough leather to outfit a FEW small P.D.s. One of the highlight's of my day is stopping by the shop to see what the UPS man has brought in. Not very often am I disappointed. Cheers.

Very nice stuff. Good pictures too.
I'm a confessed holster junkie myself. I get more excited over a new holster than a new gun.

Very nice indeed. Nicer leather is on my list, near the top too.

Well my first post here and I cant for the life of me think of a better 1st post than praising Lou. He makes some of the best holsters I've used in the last 15 years. If you haven't tried the APX w/a J-frame you are missing the best carry option for the summer...

I have one for a PM9. It is fantastic. I have been trying to convince Lou to make a tuckable APX.

Since this thread has got a bit more action I think I should point a few things out about two of the rigs pictured.

First the ankle holster... I really think this is something that people might not pay enough attention to and, while I’m not a fan of ankle carry as a primary mode of toting around ones piece, for a back up gun its tops, IMO. I had been wearing that ankle holster for about 18 months when that picture was taken. I’ve worn it in almost every imaginable circumstance including rain, snow, mud, while training, working, or just lollygagging out in the field... if I’m wearing pants you can be guaranteed I’m wearing that rig with a S&W 442 or 642 tucked inside. This holster has proven indestructible (believe me I’ve tried to break it) and although it’s an open top it gives up no retention qualities to similar designs that make use of retention straps. Worn on the inside of ones support side leg, the gun is accessible with either hand and I can think of no other way I would rather be carrying a back up piece... this is one tuff rig! Now if I could only get Lou to make me one for my S&W 29 I’d be set.

Second is the AR15 mag pouch... Like the ankle holster this is something I seldom see people pay any mind to. In today’s world of “load bearing” this and “tactical drop leg” that what people often loose sight of is what is truly practical. I think Lou’s AR15 mag carrier is a fitting definition and anyone who uses an AR should have one. I don’t plan on sustaining any long engagements should I have the misfortune of being forced to use my AR but what I would like is to have at least one reload on board. The AR mag carrier Lou has crafted quickly and easily snaps onto the belt and stays securely put via one-way snaps but what’s best is just how concealable this rig can be. The ride height and retention of the pouch make it easy to hide either a 20rd or 30rd AR mag under just a t-shirt, that’s no BS. The pouch is fast to draw from and uses the same set of motions pistol shooters should already be familiar with but best of all one doesn’t need to put on any special belt or 42 pounds of load bearing vest just to have a spare AR mag. Ahh... practicality!!

I too would agree that a tuckable version of the APX would be idea for those times when you cant carry a pistol or at least want to look like you dont have one. Lou was kind enough to send me one for my 642 along with a invoice that said "Happy Birthday". I have probably 8 or 9 Alessi holsters with the WSDT being my favorite. I carry a Sig 220 daily in one of his belt slides along with the 642 in the APX. I think I need to order one of those combo mag/light carriers now.

Lou has been a good friend of mine since the early 80's, so I have quite a collection myself. The black horsehide DOJ he made for me looks almost as smooth inside as it does out !

You don't even want to know about the full shark ankle rig for my HK P7

Don't know that one.

Barry, Here is a photo of the APX.. It is designed to be worn in the appendix position just to the right of the belt buckle. The butt of the gun tips down slightly to allow a muzzle forward cant so you can sit in comfort.

Neat. I like it!
I've thought about that carry mode a lot. The closest I've come is just a little farther back, using an HK P7M8 (it's just short enough to manage there). It's very fast.

I have Lou's APEX for a J-frame and it's the BEST! I do not say that lightly. I've tried most but nothing conceals better than this one. I can wear it with a standard (not baggy) T-shirt and it disappears. It takes a bit of "breaking in" to get used to the position, but sitting with it on has become NO problem and I never worry about printing from the rear.

That said, it's best with boot grips because larger ones dig into my "keg" above my belt. I can't say it'll work with a P7 or other guns because I don't have experience with them, but for a J-frame, get one.
:P
