45Fundi,
The grips are black shark-skin that I made myself experimenting a bit.
I actually didn't make the grips myself. Just sanded down an old beat-up pair and covered them with black shark. I've got a stingray set on the back-burner once I get caught up a bit (yeah, like that'll ever happen!).

Have you given any thought to selling the style grips?

The few sets I've made in shark are holding up well. My main concern was the glue being strong enough to keep the hide on the wood. That doesn't seem to be an issue according to a good customer of mine who carries his daily and says (after several months) they're very durable. As for function shark is textured enough that it gives a good gripping surface. Stingray has been used for sword handles for centuries so that shouldn't be an issue. As a matter of fact, it's been used for sword and knife handles for SO long that I can't believe no one else is using it for pistol grips!

Of course I've thought of marketing them. The main problem with that is finding a grip-maker willing to sell quality cut but unfinished blanks at a price that I could still turn a profit. Right now I'm stuck with searching for beat-up grips at gun shows or using customer-supplied grips.
Thanks for the interest guys!

Hi Mark! What about hooking up with Don Williams 'house-brand' gripmaker? The prices seem to be very affordable for quality wood,
maybe he (they?) can make something in a lower cost, but still very
durable wood for a base.....

I just received my hybrid holster from Mark. I chose to have it trimmed in elephant. All I got to say is this is one top notch holster. Now I have to wait for the guys at Yo-Bo to ship me the Colt that it is ment for. I will post pics when I get the gun.
