After ten years of carrying a gun for a living I have learned what works for me and what doesn’t. One thing I know for sure is that anything that reports to do more then one thing usually can’t do anything well. That’s why when my friend and holster maker Mark Garrity asked me to try out a new proto-type holster design I was suspicious. You see he said he had an idea for an in-the pants holster with an adjustable can’t he called “The Changeling”. He explained that his idea was to make holster with an infinitely adjustable can’t so the user could go from cross-draw to strong-side carry and everything in-between. Even though I was suspicious, I like the idea of a cross-draw in-the pants holster so I was willing to give it a shot. As a result I requested a holster for my Sig. 225 with a matching belt and magazine pouch.
When the rig arrived I was very impressed. Mark is a great guy and a very good craftsman, but he out did himself this time. The rig was all done in a beautifully rich cordovan color that had the look of fine mahogany.
The belt was 1.4 inches wide with a petite but delicate buckle that will work great with a suit or dress pants.
The magazine pouch was made out of just enough leather to hold the magazine in place. I personally believe a mag pouch should use as little leather as possible to reduce drag when you have to make an emergency re-load. Despite the lack of leather the magazine stays where you put it.
The holster was the quintessential mixture of form and function. As to form it has all the usual niceties that make carrying a piece of steal close to your body endurable. It has a long wide sweat shield that completely keeps the sharp Novak rear sight from rubbing my ample love handles. It has double stitching all the way round and really well done boning. One look at the outside tells you that Mark spent hours with his boning tool. The belt loop is cut out for a pants loop and is adjustable between 1.4 and 1.5 inches. The leather is 8 or 10 ounces and will not collapse on the draw.
As to function Mark has taught me a valuable lesson, some things can do more then one thing and do them well. As promised the holster is completely adjustable and works well in any position. The best part about it is that the holster body is no thicker then any other in-the pants rig. You can see from the pictures how it works and take it from me it works well. It’s also simple and quick to adjust. One or two turns with an allen wrench and your on your way.
I have carried in this holster everyday for a week in the traditional strong side carry. It conceals well and is very comfortable. Sometimes IWB’s ride to high and can flop around, that is not the case hear. The gun carry’s well, doesn’t shift on the belt and doesn’t dig in to your side after five minutes.
Next week I plan to carry cross draw, then the following week appendix carry, and so on until I test it in every position. I then will update Mark with any suggestions for improvement and will also post them here as well.
Take a look at the below photo’s and give Mark a call his your in the market for a new in the pants holster, or anything else for that matter.

Mark,

Just curious - what are the eylets for (below the snaps on the belt loop)?

5Shot,
There are two pairs of eyelets. Those that the snaps are mounted through and those below, so you can unscrew the snaps and relocate them in the lower pair and use the same belt loop for a 1.50 or 1.25 inch belt.
