I'm looking at taking some classes and would like to have a good OWB holster. What's your favorite and why?

I'm leaning toward Lou's CQC-S for easy on and off but are the belt slides like the ACP more stable and concealable? Opinions? Pix?

Hoser - for durability and speed in a training holster, it's hard to beat Kydex. I have a Comp-Tac Settable Cant that works with either belt loops or a paddle (I've never used the paddle - only the loops over my Wilderness belt).

As a matter of training philosophy, I've had something of a conversion, though, and now only train using one of the two holsters I routinely carry concealed with: an Alessi PCH for my Commander or Concept X, and a Sparks VMII for my Custom Carry or S70 Government Model custom. The VMII will be replaced as the five inch gun carry holster with another PCH the day it arrives in the box (with an entire rig of belt and mag/light pouch) from Lou.

I seldom carry OWB, but when I do, it's in a CQC/s. Theoretically, I would think that an OWB with slots matched to your gunbelt would be slightly more stable over hundreds of presentations than a CQC/S, but I like the CQC/S so much that I wouldn't hesitate to use it for a class. I think it's plenty stable enough for that kind of use.

I use Lou Alessi's DOJs. They work great for concealed carry, ride flat against the body, present easy and I have used them in classes with no probelms.

CQC-S for EDC with my Sig226. When I carried a 1911, it was the ACP-S and the DOJ-TB.

I like Lou's DOJ holster for my 1911s. For everything else, CQC-S. It's the only holster I've found that will conceal a Glock 20 under a light shirt. I've found it to be VERY stable and comfortable. Retention is also very good- I've been in a few foot pursuits that ended in fights while wearing my sidearm in a CQC-S, and the gun has stayed put.

I use a Garrity Hy-Brid belt holster for carry. This holster not only looks good, it is functional as well. The holster fits tight to the body and is angled perfectly to conceal the but of th egun within the shape of the body. Lou may very well make a good holster, but after purchasing a Garrity holster I don't think I will ever go back to mass produced holsters again.

I had an ACP and ended up selling it, didn't care for the cant. I bought a CQC belt slide and it was almost perfect, then Lou got me a CQC/S...... I will not buy another style holster ever.

I'm another CQC/S fan. I usually carry IWB, but if I'm carrying OWB, it's in a CQC/S.
I have four. I usually carry a 5" 1911, but sometimes carry a HiPower or an HK P7, so I have a CQC/S for each.
It's been a while, but I've carried a Sig P220 in the past, so I still have a CQC/S for it also.

So, basically, what I'm saying is: If there's any chance that I will carry a particular gun, I make sure I have a CQC/S for it.

To appreciate how well designed that holster is, I only have to look at the one I have for the HK P7. That P7 can be a hard gun to holster. It's really short and has a steel frame, making it grip-heavy. If a holster isn't designed correctly, the gun will tend to "flop" outward from the belt.
Some makers have enough trouble making ANY holster that carries that gun properly.
The fact that Mr Alessi designed a holster that's solid enough to carry that gun properly AND did it with snap loops is quite an accomplishment.

As I like to describe that design- It's a holster miracle.

Before getting my first one, I wondered that with the loops, it might take up a lot belt space.
If you've wondered about that- don't. It's fine. If it takes up any more belt space than a belt-slot-type, I can't tell it.
