Any thoughts on snakeskin for IWB? I have heard there are durability issues. I am thinking of picking up an EB Kobra Carry and thought hosuing it in an IWB snkeskin (albeit not cobra skin) rig would be appropriate. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

from what ive heard, it only makes the holster a lot thicker, because they attach the "exotic" to the leather...

It would make it somewhat thicker, but not excessive, so if you truly want it, I doubt you would be unhappy.

As far as Cobra skin - you can probably get that without too much trouble, if you really want it.

oh, i forgot to add!! what MOST people do is get the holster made in leather. and get the top trimed out in exotic...its cheaper, looks great.

I don't think snake is very durable over the long haul but it can add an interesting look to an otherwise plain holster like this Python clad IWB. holster.

Compared to other exotics it's very thin so it doesn't really add anything to the thickness of the normally used leather weight.

I actually prefer the look of python although I'm not sure if I've ever seen a cobra skin anything before. Mat DelFatti has a rig posted a little further down page one for a S&W. I'm thinking something like that but in the style of an ARG-DL. I've got to get up with a couple of the makers here and see what they can come up with. Thanks fr the feedback.

Matt is correct (and very nice holster, Matt) in that snake-skin is paper thin and won't add any significant thickness to a holster. Actually if made properly no exotic hide will add any significant thickness to a holster. Anyway, to answer the question, any form of snake-skin is not very durable. I wouldn't recommend it for a daily hard-use holster; more for an occasional show piece. The scales tend to peel up and then pull off. Certain lizard skins actually have more durable scales that don't lift as easily. As to cobra, most of the skins sold are only a few inches wide at thier widest point, so they're not large enough to make a complete holster out of. I have used it for mouthbands though.

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. Matt you must have gotten that up while I was typing. That is exactly the piece I was referring to. I will probably hold off on the snakeskin due to the durability issue. I would imagine if I owned something that nice I'd be wearing it ALOT! Thanks again.
