Howdy folks,

I'm sure my question has been asked plenty of times, however, my search hasn't been very successful. Please forgive.

I'm getting ready to purchase a S & W 642 (centennial frame) and would like to get some opinions on holsters. #1. I am not interested in ankle or shoulder carry. #2. I suppose pocket carry will be used to a limited extent, in which case the Desantis Nemesis seems to be getting good reviews but I'm open to better ideas. #3. For belt carry, a Blackhawk Serpa has been mentioned with the option of a paddle. I'm completely lost as to what method of carry this holster resembles (eg. IWB, OWB).

Please provide me with CCW holster suggetions (pros/cons) for the 642 and the types of clothing/dress best suited for each. Thanks all!!!

If I carried such a gun on the hip it would be in this:

Alessi CQC/S

I carry a S&W in a Kramer pocket holster for a BUG.

Call me old fashion but a 5 shot 38spl does not equal a primary gun IMO.

I can recommend PCS or Pocket Carry Systems holsters. Their leatherwork is excellent and their designs are extremely effective. You can find them at http://www.pcsholsters.com.

Note what kind of pants you will be wearing when you carry. If you're wearing dress slacks or "Dockers", you'll want a holster that cants the butt of the gun forward, or into the pocket. Without this, the gun butt will show every time you sit down, and sometimes when you're just walking. If you're going to be wearing jeans or something with top entry pockets, you'll want a holster with a straight drop or it's hell to draw the weapon. I carry a BUG everyday in on of these and have for several years.

Our own "Uncle" Lou Alessi and Josh Bullman also have some pocket offerings, I just don't have any first hand experience with them. However knowing these two gentlemen, they are no doubt "top drawer" quality.

Mark
