hi guys, alessi, bulman, ect. make this style of holster. i currently have a qrh coming for a couple differant guns.

what is the main differance between these two styles of holsters?

http://www.bulmangunleather.com/qrh.html

http://www.bulmangunleather.com/qfds.html

im assuming the qfds with a loop on the body holds it closer to the body?

thanks for any help.

In my experience, the holsters that have the loops on both fore and aft of the holster body hold the gun in a little closer than the one with the aft loop and the tunnel on the body. I'm sure it varies because of maker, gun, and wearer, but that is what I've found. Nice holsters, by the way.

yeah, the qrh holster or alessi cqcs holster is pretty much the reason that i damn near stopped carrying iwb!lol.

it always seemed like i was ONLY carrying my j-frame iwb because i never felt it. and my bigger guns (g-19) ect. never seemed comfortable or even that tolerable..

just out of chance i tried on my uncles alessi rig with an hk usp compact and couldnt believe how well it carried the weight ect.

so, long story short, im selling most of my iwb and switching to that style owb.....:)

Assuming that Josh makes both holsters of the same thickness leather, the pistol would be exactly the same distance away from the body in both holsters. In each case, the leather is the only thing between the pistol and the belt. I think the sensation that the pistol is closer is actually that the wider spread belt loops exert better control of the pistol and any minute wobble.

The two holsters differ in that one is of a “pancake” construction (QRH) with the belt loops formed by straps on the outboard wings and the other is of a wrap around design (QFDS) with a belt loop between the holster pouch and the wearer’s body and then a trailing loop. The wrap around construction of the QFDS will probably provide longer term holster mouth rigidity than will the pancake construction. The QRH can be mounted and removed without unthreading your belt. The QFDS cannot.

If you’re very narrow waisted and have a pistol that is tall from the top of the slide to the bottom of the trigger guard, the closer spaced belt loops of the QFDS may work better for you because it can follow the tighter arc of your belt. Otherwise, it depends on what combination of features would be most important to you.

I have both an Alessi CQC/S and DOJ/S. The CQC/S is similar to the QRH and is a great rig however, it (Alessi) tends to ride lower on the belt than most others, not sure about the QRH but it's something to be aware of. The DOJ/S is like the QFDS and is absolutely my favorite holster! Rides high and tight to the body and conceals like no other I have tried. Either way you can't go wrong.

In my opinion and experience, it is the ideal design for that size pistol:
