I have been very fortunate to have had help from the best of the best. I have always enjoyed making holsters, and I thought my early work was nothing to be ashamed of.... but I certainly owe these men a great deal for their help and guidance. The work I do today is of no comparison to my work from the past
I sold my very first holster almost 3 years ago to the day. At that time, I had no intention of making holsters for anyone but myself, and only sold the holster because I sold the gun that I had made it for. That first sale generated a lot of interest from Forum Members on 1911Forum, which lead to making a few more. That is where I got the name BTW - everyone started asking about holsters made by forum member 5Shot, and it just stuck. The early ones were sewn by hand, and I remember telling my wife - "I am going to make 10 holsters and sell them on the forum and buy myself a leather stitcher" (I had always wanted one since high school for doing the occasional holster, cartridge carrier, etc.). Well, after the 3rd one I told her -
"I am going to buy a stitcher and make 7 more holsters to pay for it!" No more hand stitching for this guy.
A while back I contacted my very first customer (which at the time wasn't really even a customer - there was no 5 Shot Leather). I offered him a trade. No. 1 for any holster set of his choosing. He agreed to the trade, and opted for an Uncle Lou and Single Mag Pouch with Sting Ray Trim - He is from Florida, and likes the Seafood Theme!
Well sorry to ramble on, here they are - First Generation and Next Generation. Hopefully things continue to improve and I can make this a full time Career.
John
