What size belt do you guys prefer for an IWB? 1 1/4, 1 1/2? And why?

Thanks,

Tom

1-1/2" seems to be the most common. its "just right"

you know. most belts from dept. stores ect. are 1-1/2"

usually dress belts are 1-1/4" i think they look goofy with jeans...

I'd respectfully suggest that it depends on what type of trousers you wear most often.

1-1/2 inches certainly distributes the load a little better, but many of my suits don't have belt loops that will accommodate a double thickness gunbelt of that width.

1-1/4 inches, on the other hand, is a perfect width, is quite comfortable for me, and my Alessi and DelFatti belts are as elegant as anything much less functional.

So with jeans or shorts, I wear a 1-1/2 inch belt most often. But with dress trousers and suits, it's typically 1-1/4. The size of the belt is driven by the application.

That´s correct, and both measures will work almost identical for an "IWB rig".

Alex.

While I think that a good quality belt from any of the makers will serve you well in either 1.25" or 1.5". Now for me it seems that the 1.5" that tapers to 1.25" works the best. This size belt is what I wear 85% of the time. I wear business clothes to work daily and try to make that my pants will take a 1.5" belt. Of course I carry a Commander size 1911, extra mag, handcuffs and a SF light daily on the belt. That very well could be the reason I prefer the 1.5" belt. Now with all of that said I have belts from Alessi and DelFatti. They are both great and will serve you well. Good luck in your search. Oh and I prefer about an extra inch in length for a IWB holster.
