This may be a dumb question but I thought I would give a a shot here before I bothered any of the holster makers with phone calls. Since most holster makers list the guns which they make holsters for would it be a problem to have a 1911 holster for a 4.5" slide? I havn't seed any yet listing holsters for that barrel length. Or would that severly limit the style holster or the makers of them? I was thinking of getting another custom going but I don't want the leather to be a problem.

Well you have a few options I would think, a gov't 1911 rig would fit as would one for a commander but one would be 1/2 long and the other 1/4 short exposing the barrel. I have taken/sent psitols to makers that they did not have dummy guns for with great success. Having the holster custom fit to your weapon makes for a nice rig in terms of look, retention, etc. The maker I deal with when doing this is John Ralston of 5SHot Gunleather and there is no additional charge except for what it takes to get the pistol to and back from him. Fortunately, I only live a hours drive from John so shipping isn't an issue. Bottom line is that it can be done, you need to decide what you want in terms of design, etc then contact the maker for arrangements. Good luck!

About your cuestion.. there´s no problem to get a perfect fitted holster, a regular 5" dummie gun can be cutted down to 4".5 this will allow a perfect holster that match your gun...

But you should get at least three holsters considering all the inconvenience
