John has covered it pretty well... although he left out his part, the hard work.
Like he mentioned the holster isn’t anything super ground breaking but it does incorporate a few features that can be helpful to the user. We basically took the tried and true Summer Special body design, which has been used in countless holsters before, and modified it a bit.
A sweat guard is available because it’s nice for those who like them and, like the smooth out construction, it will help protect the pistol from perspiration... that something that can come in very helpful in places like Arizona.

After that we...
and bare in mind when I say “we†what I really mean is John ‘cause in reality I couldn’t sew a button onto a shirt... added stitched loops but instead of sewing them underneath the mouth-band they are stitched on top. This essentially mimics the stability platform that I’ve always found is the key to the Summer Special. The beauty of that design is the simplicity... the one-piece belt loops extending downward from the attached mouth-band creating a “ledge†of sorts that allows the holster to rest and be supported by the pants. A proper belt then provides a support for the pants and thus the holster... basically the pants support the holster, the belt supports the pants, and the whole works is bound too your body by the belt. The stitched loops, while providing a bit less bulk, secure the rig and eliminate the possibility of the holster being drawn with the gun.
As John mentioned the holster will be available in two ride heights... the higher of the two is basically the same as the
classic Summer Special and will work wonderfully for 5†and Commander sized 1911 as well as large frame Glocks or any similarly sized gun. The lower ride height will work great for shorter barreled guns like Kahrs, Glock 19/23, etc. as well as providing a bit lower ride for those who prefer it with a full-size 1911. Me, I’ll have one of each...
Truth the vast majority of this is John’s doing... I gave him my input on a holster I wanted him to make for me and he took it to a whole other level... and very well I might add. Those of you who are holsters junkies like me will be doing yourself a favor by getting in line with John. And for those who will be at SHOT this year stop by the LTW booth and see
the rig John made for American Handgunner, the knife sheath alone is worth a half-hour of examination.
