I need a holster...
that will minimize wear on my handgun (in the usual parts) when drawing
can survive the seasons changing
durable against sweat, grease and any yummy inpurities our skin produces in a day
not obtrusive
breaks fast for a quick draw
and lowest profile

variables...price not an option
can wait on delivery

any and all input is always appreciated

thanks guys

Sounds like an Alessi CQC/S

One of the few leather holsters I've used that release the gun after the initial draw movement. Doesn't feel like dragging a boat anchor out.

thanks OS, i'll look into it.

I know I'm only asking for "perfect" here, but really looking for a few suggestions.

I was told the cheapie Fobus is probably my best bet, but I'd like more input before making a decision and owning 10 rigs for the same piece.

thanks again

The Fobus can be ripped from your side in less than a minute. The plasic that attaches to the belt is too brittle and the screws tear out of it easily.

If you want a cheap plastic holster use either the original Glock OWB (does a great job) or an Uncle Mikes. The UM plastic is stronger.

Fobus is the "Jennings" of holsters!

Leather gives you retention properties that you want if you ever have to fight for your gun. Kydex releases the gun after the first few CMs and then it's floating in air.

I was a Kydex guy. Ihave had great luck with Blade tech and used the IWBs for nearly 10 years for both my 1911 and glock platforms. Kydex was not uncomfortable. I also use a quality purpose built gunbelt i.e. double thickness Rafter S, Liger or Wilderness 5 stich.

I then bought a vintage Gordon Davis IWB for my 1911. The diffrence in comfort between my that and my Blade tech kydex was siginificant. As I said, it was not that the kydex was uncomfortable so much as the leather is so much more comfortable.

I would consider a premium leather IWB. For example, I would note that Milt Sparks Versa Max IIs are typically trading at 30-60 percent higher than retail on ebay. That demand for the VMII is so brisk that at least two other holster makers I know off are making similar designs and are selling as fast as they can make them at less than 100 shipped with wait times of 8 weeks max as opposed to 26 weeks from Sparks.

There are other premium makers such as Del Fatti and Alessi (by no means an exclusive listing of premium makers) who are making a fine product as well.

Lightning Arms has been out of stock on many VM II models. It would be a welcome sight if they were stocked back up. If so , they won't be for long.

Who are those other companies? PM me if needed

I don't know of any synthetic that isn't hard on a finish and I don't know of any leather that is as fast as Rob Leatham out of Kydex. I'm purty quick on the draw and I prefer cow or horse hide made by one of the best makers. IMHO the leather gurus on this site make holsters that are going to outwear most of us and out perform most of us. The pH balance of my skin is somewhere between hydrochloric and napalm. My hands melt rubber and styrofoam. I'm not kidding. What makes me even harder on holsters is I wear the leather against my bare skin and cow and horse hide have served me fine. If I move back to SE Asia I would use Kydex, but most every where else cow or horse hide. I hear that steer hide may be a compromise of the two. Not an expert, but thats my experience. I have 3 guns planned that one will wear Del Fatti, one Alessi and one HBE. The HBE will be next.

I have a couple of holsters from Tucker Gun Leather that have performed well for me and fit your criteria. They are leather/kydex hybrids and work well in the heat/sand, hold the weapon close to the body and release very quickly. That being said, they are not my choice for everyday carry...depends on what your other needs are. Good luck in your search.

If the regular guys' leather isn't what you want, check out Greg Kramer's horsehide stuff. Thinner than kydex, more comfortable, virtually sweatproof, and wears like iron. "Nature's Kydex"

For a horsehide rig so thin it's unbelieveable and detailing that will make your eyes pop, Alex Nossar is the man to go to. Long wait but not as bad as some of the others and when you open the package, you'll understand!!

That's exactly what it reminded me of the first time I felt a Kramer holster! Use away.
