Howdy , below are two picture of Pre WW2 Speed Safety Clamshell holsters [ not Safety Speed ] , the one on the left is for 6 or 6 1/2 inch N- frame and the one on right is for a 5 inch N-frame , were n frame revolver popular in the preWW2 days ??

They were if you wanted a heavier caliber (.44, .45) or a .357 magnum which were only available in the N-frame. The K-frame was only available in .38 Spec and .22. So the holsters pre-date the .44 mag, .41 mag (both N-frame) or K-frame or L-frame magnums.
