The below photos are of a Bruce Nelson Patriot, which most agree was the original snap-on OWB. When designing my own snap-on OWB in the late 90's (my Hy-Brid snap-on, now discontinued in lieu of my KQM snap-on) I had a lengthy phone conversation with Lou Alessi regarding his CQC-S. Lou experimented with the design extensively, primarily in terms of wing width and loop location in relation to the pistol; and told me he felt his biggest improvement over Mr. Nelson's concept was moving the loops closer to the pistol for better stability and holding the pistol tighter to the body, and widening the wings (top to bottom height). (I never experimented with this myself; I just took Lou's word for it). The Nelson design tended to flop out from the body primarily due to the spacing of the loops. The owner of the holster pictured was a very good friend of Mr. Nelson's and confirmed this, and the fact that even though the Patriot was being advertised it was still somewhat in the experimental stages, and not very many were made/sold before Mr. Nelson's untimely passing.
