I know they're not the most popular mode of carry at the moment, but I'd like to give it a try.

Who is making the best shoulder rig right now? I'd like it to carry a gun and a couple mags.

I really like haugen leather of Bismark North Dakota I have one upstairs that he made several years ago, its a 15* off vertical holster that rides like a dream, I used it a lot when I was spending all day on the road in a work truck. now its my middle of the night grab rig, gun two mags, and a added ring for a flash light. looks kookie, but works no matter what i am wearing if something goes bump

Hi Kev,

Back in the day, Milt Sparks used to make a shoulder rig that was highly thought of.

If you give them a call, they can probably send you some pics. If you like it, they may it for you on a custom order basis like they do for the 1AT.

HTH,
John

I bought a beautiful shoulder rig from Horseshoe Leather in the UK a couple of years back for a 1911. Mr. Aratoonian was the proverbial English gentleman to work with..the holster is beautiful and VERY comfortable and the turn around time was fantastic. The delivery from the UK actually took longer than it did for him to process my order and get started on the holster. It now carries my custom Colt Delta when I go knocking around in the woods and want some "extra power" on my side. One word of caution if you choose Andy, MAKE SURE that you describe EVERY detail of the weapon and magazines that you will be using, I foolishly forgot to add the fact that I have bumper pads on the magazines that I was carriying and the mag pouches would not snap around the extra lenght, no problem..just picked up a few extra mags without the pads. Again I cannot recommend Horseshoe enough. Here is the link to my post on LTW--John

Last week I heard that Alessi had some Bodyuards for the 1911 in stock. I have several that Lou had made for me for different guns and IMO they are the best shoulder rigs made. Worth a try katie@alessigunleather.com

Right now the best imo is John Ralston. I would say matt Delfatti but he doesn't count since he is not taking orders. I just got one from John and it is as good as Matts. Better then Galco by far. Better then Lou's (RIP) and better then Andrews leather. I have all four and Johns can be beat right now.

If you want kydex I suggest survival sheath. His link is on my blog. I like kydex for shoulder rigs since security is the main issue and nylon for sanitary reasons :)

In leather, John Ralstons work is SUPERB.
