I was at the SHOT show 2010 in Vegas a week ago and spent some time at the LTW booth. Boy did they have all kind of nice pistols, not all of them were 1911s, a couple of nice K frames from Ted Yost were really really nice. But this is not about guns, it's about holsters.

I spoke with John Ralston and asked him if he had any holsters for sale. He showed me a few, two of them I brought home with me. Here is one of them.

I always like the Sparks Summer Special, I prefer the original version, not the "2". I thought that it was the most comfortable IWB. As we all know, Jason Burton asked John to make a holster similar to the Summer Special but with features that Jason thought could improve the old package. He had John added the sweat shield and made the belt loops solid instead of with snaps. I have many nice IWBs from Sparks and Alessi, but they're all for 5" 1911s but none for a commander length pistol. I thought I would give the IBS rig by John a try.
It is a really nice holster with the comfort of the original SS and the solid belt loops made the holster more stable on the belt. He molded the leather tight to the gun but still allow a smooth draw. I really like this rig a lot, I think I'll be wearing it with my commanders for a long time, maybe as long as the original Summer Special that I've been wearing since 1986.

Couldn't agree more. I just picked up the same holster, but in government size, sold AS NEW on the 1911forum and couldn't be happier. Great work. This is my 2nd 5-shot and they are both top-notch.

RT - Knowing how much you like the Summer Special as well as your history with it I had a feeling you’d appreciate the IBS holster. :)

For those who don't know... I’ve been a long time user of the Summer Special, it was my first really good holster and I certainly cut my teeth on it. And while the S/S still remains one of my favorite rigs it was a real treat to be able to work with John on this holster and he did an excellent job of turning my jumbled and convoluted ideas into a very workable and practical holster. The IBS holster has changed the minds of allot of folks who had previously been convinced that an IWB rig with loops set on top of the holster body couldn’t be stable or concealable. John is supplying first rate concealment gear to some very serious users along with us civilian-pukes alike and I know his mentor would be very proud of the designs and products coming out of John’s shop.
