I just recently purchased a custom knife from a maker that I have not heard of. The maker is D. Metzger. Has anyone had any experience with this gentleman? Are his products any good? Also what is a good steel for a knife. The knife in question is made from 6A High Carbon steal. Is this a quality metal? What about 440C steae?

Any help or informaiton would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry if no one has heard of it. My two favorite custom builders, ByGeorge in OKC and Claude Young in Pitkin, CO, are realitavely unknow, but they build some of the nicest knives I've seen.

Good choice Patrick. I have about 13 by George (George Englebretson) knives. I rate him top notch even if he is a friend. He is getting old and is slowing down but is still quite the craftsman. Here is a knife George made for me before I went to Kosovo for a year. If you know George you know he hates big "killing knifes". I told him I needed a working knife and after much bitching this was done 2 weeks later. It has seen much of the world and has been used for everything from openening letters from home to digging out bullets. I can post more pics if anyone is interested.

Mark, it is a Behlert. I purchased it form a customer who bought it for Clarks in louisiana. They told him it was a Behlert gun. I emailed pics to Austin and he advised it was his work. I added the C&S safety and factory adjustable. Got rid of the Millett that was on it.

I am still working on getting some photos of my BY GEORGE knives posted.
