Hi Gents,

I'm aware that most or all of the smiths here only do full house builds if they take any more work at all. I want to see if anyone can point me to someone that would work on a Dawson Precision frame. It has the Dawson proprietary light rail which doesn't fit any holsters nor modern weapon lights. It's mounted under the dust cover with screws but if I take it off I'll end up with three screw holes in the dust cover. I think the holes could be tig welded and then the stainless frame bead blasted or some such in that area.

If someone were able to do that I would like to see if we could make some other improvements. Overall, it's a very well made pistol. He only made a few before he stopped building his own and selling STI so I would like to hang on to it.

I always thought the Dawson Rail was a good thing and it was popular there for a while.... too bad it kinda fell off. Your idea to weld the holes up is, I guess, as good as any plan. Probably won't be cheap and I can't say I have a recommendation as to where to send it. Laser welding would be better I'd say and maybe even weld in plugs, but there again, it might cost you more than a new frame. I get it about saving it because it's one of a few, just be prepared for it to hurt a little
