Old Savage 340 in 30-30... my customer got it from his grandfather's estate, and for the family history he wanted to "save" it. He had no idea where to start, so I suggested making a "Rat Rod" scout style rifle out of it. Thanks to Ned's post on his Rat Rifle for the inspiration!
The gun was in pieces, last couple inches of the barrel were rusty and pitted, and over all the gun was not in great shape. I began with cutting and re-crowning it to 16.5" where the barrel was still good, then we were off to the spare parts and pieces boxes of my shop. I handled the metal work for him he had Glenrock Blue handle Ceracoat and the customer refinished the stock
Remington 700 scope base was re-contoured to fit and screwed and silver soldered (backwards to clear the nut) to the barrel, and a knock off Bomar style rear soldered into a machined recess to serve as the rear iron sight, a ramp and front sight was installed, think that was the only part I ordered in the build
