I really don't know how to write this as I'm at a loss for words.
Yesterday(Saturday) afternoon I received a package at my shop that was forwarded from Lou Alessi. I had not ordered anything so when I opened the boxes inside was a beautiful wood stand and an AMERICAN flag with a plaque engraved "To Albert Shear From Capt. James Tighe" and the seal of the United States Army.
Then there was a letter included from Capt. Tighe explaining this precious gift. I stood in the middle of my crowded shop on a Saturday afternoon and cried. The last time I did that was when my father died on my 21st birthday. That is how much this gift moved me.
Capt. Tighe explained that during his tour in Afghanistan he carried this flag with him and it flew as a symbol of freedom and safe harbor for all to see and flock too. He found LTW and was immedately drawn to not only the fine examples of firearm artistry, but the best the American Spirit has to offer. How it gave him the knowledge that he was fighting for something worthwhile.
I just don't know what to say Capt. Tighe. Mere words could not do justice to this gesture. To give a flag that you carried in harms way fighting for me, cased and engraved! I am overwhelmed!
Capt. Tighe, I salute you sir! I thank you for your service in defending this great nation. But most of all I thank you for being who you are.
Al Shear

I knew it was coming, and it still catches me off balance a bit. It's a great gift, and a tremendous honor.

Capt. Tighe, Thank you - from all of us. You do us proud.

Al, I Couldn't think of a better place to house and honor that flag than in your care.

Ditto. We've kind of kept this 'under wraps', Al.

You and Capt. Tighe both rank as men of honor in my book.

Captain, I salute you. Keep your head down.

Al,
Enjoy it as much as the person who ends up with the Operator you donated. We knew about this and were as blown away as you are. Most people don't look for a way to help others when at the time they are a little down.

What you did was special, so Captain Tighe on behalf of the United States Army thought you should be recognized. So do we. Thanks to both you and Captain Tighe. Sure would be nice to have you guys at the Shot Show with us. 8)

This sure would make one great story Most folks probably would find it hard to believe that so much respect and love for one another could exist among people who share a common respect of firearms.

Whether it be a Pistol Smith, Police Officer, Member of our Armed forces or just private citizen. We all come together and share our thoughts, joy's and sorrow.

Captain Tighe I salute and respect you for all you have done for our country. Al I admire your generosity when times are tough you reached down and gave a piece of yourself for a very worthy cause.

For all the folks at LTW you stand up and step forward ready for the next task asked of you.

To all the die hards who might read this and wonder OK what is this REALLY all about. I hate to burst your bubble what you see is what you get. These folks are the best of the best and the anyone lucky enough to take part in LTW in anyway possible will understand what I mean

I love each and every one of you guys and every time I am having a bad day I go to the LTW website and refresh myself with all the kindness surrounding me.

Gary

What else can be said? I stand in awe of such actions among men who do not know each other personally, yet do it just because it is right!

Gentlemen,

I would like to apologize to the forum for posting some of this in a thread for which it does not belong. I also need to tell you all that I am not a very public person and my writing skills are wanting, in that I'm not very good at expressing what I'm thinking in words. My name is Jim Tighe and though I've been registered for a while this is my first real post…(Moderator I understand if this part doesn’t belong on this thread…) I have attempted to put this post together all day…fact is I'm not real good at this.

I read of a man that in the times that most men would sit back and think of only himself, this man took what he had and gave to help someone else. Gentlemen, I spent a year in the company of the most selfless people (men and women) that this country had to offer. I witnessed acts of moral and ethical courage that I could never describe…I tell you this so you all understand that I have a strong basis for what I am about to say. Mr Shear's act of generosity moved me in such a way that I could not describe nor explain. I only wish I were so eloquent that I could explain it to you.

I found LTW in an attempt to find Mr. Yost's new site, (YOBO), to have a pistol built and spoil myself a little bit. The idea of building a pistol kept my mind occupied and in some of those weaker moments gave me a respite from feeling sorry for myself. Well, the photos were amazing but what struck me more were the people that were drawn to this site. Each and every person that I read, were someone very special. You all reminded me of why I was where I was and doing what I was doing. I looked forward to coming back to a base camp and getting online to read more, many times reading expended all my online time. So, I am forever indebted to all of you more than you can know the kindness and consideration that you show here is the reason that I joined the Army a very long time ago.

I could never thank you all enough for the strength that you all brought me when I was lacking resolve. Mr. Shear, Mr. Keeney, Mr. Yost and all of you, thank you for allowing me to wear your uniform and represent you.

Jim Tighe

I don't know what to say except that I'm touched.

My hat is off to both Al & Jim.

Thank you both for being who and what you are.

Gentlemen-

I just had the honor and pleasure of being in Al's company for the last 7 or 8 hours. He probably hasn't gotten home yet, so he probably hasn't checked into LTW yet either. I feel sure that the stated reaction he had when he opened the boxes from Lou will be repeated when he reads the comments here and especially the public post from Capt. Tighe.

Al doesn't understand why his selfless act is so noble in the eyes of others, but that's exactly how real heroes (Al and Capt. Tighe, just to name two) look at things.

And Capt. Tighe, if your service ever brings you to A. P. Hill for some reason, please contact the Bowling Green PD and ask for Chip Brezee. It would be my distinct honor to buy you the biggest steak the New Yorker Restaurant has to offer. We can compare YO-BO 1911's, too! :D

It is Sunday morning and I just read all the posts since my first one. I am overwhelmed to say the least! What can I possibly say? To Capt. Tighe, to all of my fellow members? All whom I consider friends even though we may have not met.
I cannot believe what one simple gesture has balooned into. I sit here reading Capt. Tighe's letter, post and our email exchange and I just have cry for joy. I still do not understand why, but maybe I'm not supposed to.
Maybe when you analyze and think too much you don't act. You find reasons not too.
Capt. Tighe, I salute you sir!
Al Shear

I have said many times that this is a special place that attracts very special people. We are all here to share, and help each other, and those that we may never meet. I join in saluting Al and Jim, and I appreciate how strong this community really is. Actions speak LOUDER THAN WORDS.

There is nothing I can add more eloquently than has already been said here. I am truly humbled by the company I keep here on LTW.

I had the honor of meeting Capt. Jim Tighe a few weeks ago when he returned from Afghanistan. This man is a true representation of the people who are serving voluntarily in our Armed Forces today, and I am
proud, and honored to have met him, and to be able to call him a friend.

Al, I couldn't think of a more fitting gift to a selfless person such as you.
Lou

I've only known Al Shear in a virtual sense, since we only "met" by email a number of years ago when discussing a particular brand of limited production pistol. I hope someday when in the north country to have the pleasure of meeting him in person.

His generosity, and Captain Tighe's service and thoughtfulness, are both worthy of the highest compliment an old Army infantryman can pay: a loud and thunderous "Hooah!"

CPT Tighe knows exactly what that means, and Al can certainly appreciate it, too. May God bless and keep you both.

What an amazing place the LTW forum has turned out to be, in so many ways.

Buck

I've said it before,"this is the best place on the net....because of the people!"
Just when you think it can't get much better, someone steps up and makes your jaw drop or eyes water. Mr. Shear and Cpt. Tighe, you two are gentlemen of the highest accord, and an honor to everyone here.

Thank you

Mark
