I was contacted yesterday by a person going by the name Dale Orofin telling me a sory about a Colt that was to be sold to finance a gun transfer and he wanted me to transfer the pistol. He claimed he just finished a CCW class and has MS though he isn't crippled by it. He wanted a Glock or suggestions for a CCW pistol.
Through the bad grammar, and his candor, it was suspicious from the beginning. When prompted to give his home address to see if he is local to my shop so he can sign the 4473's, he was reluctant and persistant to get my address, phone number, and full name. I didn't give such information but continued to try getting his address so I could submit it to the BATF for investigation (it was pretty obvious something was up). He finally gave me an address from Chicago. RED FLAG - no pistols in Chicago!!
Right after this last email I got my mail from GunBroker that it was bogus and to contact the BATF. In the mail from GunBroker, it showed the same exact letter with a different name to sign it off. Another Red Flag.
Either it was a Sting operation or a Scam to get my identity or illegal pistol transfer. Either way, I wanted to let you guys know in case you are contacted. If any of you FFL's would like a copy of the letter sent to read, I'd be happy to send it. Just send me an email or PM and I'll get it to you.
Take care,
Bob
