For the last few months I have been a member of the Progressive Lens Club. Target acquisition is great, sight acquisition is fuzzy at best. I have been advised by some trap shooting buddies that the best thing to do is have my perscription turned upside down. Prior to spending the money to try this, could some of you pistol shooters facing the same issue please let me know how you resolve the sight acquisition problem. I have not been able to find anything on any websight and I am confident that I am not the only pistol shooter needing progressive lenses. Your ideas, I am sure, will make my shooting more enjoyable.

Thanks for your help

If you know the prescription for the top part of your glasses, you can go to dollar store and get something to match, try that lense to look over the top of your gun. if it works, great, if not you are only out a couple of bucks. I use that method to watch t.v. laying down and it works for me. My example is distant vission is +3.25. I buy that in cheap glasses and it is great for everything but up close.. hope that makes sense.

I have worn progressives for several years now and played around with single grind lenses that focus at arms length. Single grind lenses work fine for target practice. The problem occurs that when using a lens that sharply defines the front sight at arms length, the downrange target(s) blur. I know, I know, that is the way it is supposed to be, but in the real world where instant target threat identification is critical (does he really have a gun in his hand or is it just a dark object that kinda, sorta, looks like a gun?), making the wrong decision can have catastrophic consequences. I have arrived at two solutions that work for me. Have a good smith lay a gold insert down the length of the front sight. You will find your eyes naturally and quickly pick that up even if it is a bit indistinct. Second, and probably best, get a set of Crimson Trace laser sights which will completely eliminate the problem. I have CT sights on my 2 inch J frame backup, a G19, and a very nice 1911. For my 61 year old eyes, this set up is just about perfect. Hope this helps.
