After speaking with the Capt., he wanted me to give everyone his best and that he is thinking of each of you here. He has no internet contact right now so he can't see whats going on or look at the wonderful pics. I have been doing my best to describe them but i just can't do them justice with mere words.
Anywhoo, he is in specialized training right now and will leave for Afghanistan in a couple of weeks.
So, to everyone he sends his regards and "carry on"!
Al

Great! I was just going to post if anyone had heard from him.

Looking forward to drinking a toast to him and his kind when we get together at SHOT. The good Captain has made sure we will have a quality substance with which to do it, in the form of something rare, something Irish, something single-malt. Not that I'm qualified to fully appreciate something like that..... hope some of you guys are.....

Between some customers and some of the people I've become acquainted with through LTW, I'm truly impressed with the quality of the people we have out there protecting us.... stay safe, you guys and gals.

Glad to hear he's doing well.
I was hoping to meet him before he headed out, as he might be training nearby, but I haven't heard anything from him. A shame- I was looking forward to it.
Keep us posted, Al.

Hi everyone,

I got a bit of online time and I thought I drop an update myself.

I’ve been in Mississippi for a while now, much longer than we were lead to believe (Welcome to the Army)...anyway I’m still here and have a few more specific training tables to complete before I ship out. I’m certainly getting antsy to get started with really working instead of what I’ve been doing, but as has been said many times its far better to sweat in training than bleed in combat...so

The pictures of the SHOT were fantastic, they really put a smile on my face almost as much as my phone call from Al that got everyone on the phone...I’m touched that you all took the time away from the booth to do that, and judging from Al's tales of the crowds you attracted, I know it was a lot to pull away like that, so thank you. I can only wish that I had the chance to see it first hand.

The booze...I had little doubt that Ned had top shelf taste and I’m impressed that the bottle made it to Vegas un-opened...I hope you all enjoyed it. The only way I could ever describe it was smooooooooootttthhh like a prom queen's ....ahhh….silk sash...Al you see I have couth contrary to many's opinion... Next time Ill share a bit with you all in person.

As for my present journey....this afternoon I was at a send off for some soldiers on their way out...The usual speeches were given so "important people" could say their goodbyes....But the real important people sat quietly with their loved ones as a local high school choir said thank you to the soldiers with their angelic voices. I’ve always known who has the hardest part of this job and today I was humbled as I watched the true backbone of our Military say goodbye as they sent their husbands, sons and fathers off. One of the most moving things Ive experienced. I can't say enough for the sacrifice of family and friends as well as their support. I know without my beautiful wife, the young man I have as the man of the house, my family and everyone of my friends...I count all of you amoungst them..I know my job would be much tougher than it already is. Im sure the other servicemen that have set up camp here on this site will all agree...so thank you all.

Anyway, our training has been a bit long as I have said but soon enough we'll be all on our way. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of good folks on our teams...a few will be spending a lot of time on the site since I, of course, have no will power when it comes to keeping a good place like this secret.

Thanks to the YOBO folks for the gun grease...this stuff is fantastic....never had a bit of trouble with dust or grit build up...Not sure yet exactly how it's going work in the Rock Pile but I have high expectations for it.

Ned, your sling extension is perfect however it appears I’m not using it exactly as you have thought...Ill send some photos when I secure my camera. The M4s we got all have front sling swivels mounted where you intended this to be used....the rear, however, has some issues...issues your little invention fits perfectly and allows the stress of sling carry to be spread around the rear instead of on a small piece of plastic. I don’t think you could have sized it any better. It fits absolutely perfect, and does the job better than a piece of webbing.

The light mount...I had a chance to use it during an LFX in an urban setting. With the light that came attached with it works great. The switch isn’t remoted and a constant on was required...for my situation that’s not always good thing, so I switched the one light for my M6 with a remote switch...the mounting bracket is just a bit short for a positive lockup of the larger light...I figure about an 1/8" to a 1/4" short...well a little 100mph tape got it secure as a temp fix and I went to the zero range...Ned I’ve mounted the M6x one about every rail available to me...it took me less then ten minutes to get the light zeroed to POI which normally would be offset anywhere else on the rifle but not with your rig...perfect and I mean dead nuts on at 25m. After about 15 rounds though I found the heat point for 100mph tape melt down...so back to the drawing board on getting this thing mounted more securely...Ill let you know but if you ever decide to get these out on your site and add a little more length I want to be at the front of the list. I never used a civilian laser but on your set up I don’t think I’d do without on a building entry.

One last shotgun blast, thank you all for the photos you all post...With the time I get online it brightens my day a lot to see the firearms on this site...your all amazing artists in metal and you’ve got one of the best photographers around to do you justice...

Keep the post coming and let me know via email when the next raffle is on so I can get in, in time....

Take care
Jim

CPT Tighe,

You and I never seem to be able to catch up via phone, so this will have to do for now. We will meet when you return from Afghanistan. I have a place for you in Virginia anytime you'd like to visit, and it's quite a nice place to just take a quiet walk and look at the wildlife. Make plans for when you get back.

I have no words to show my appreciation for what you do for our country. All I know that fits is to say thank you, and GOD Bless you and your soldiers. Tell them all we say thank you. Until next time...

~Jim Keeney

Hey Captain! Great to hear from you. Your ears musta been buring while SHOT was on, and yeah, that stuff was good! It was well that the lid to the box was glued on, it helped keep me honest..... yes, I was honest..... nobody in the room said, hmmm, this tastes just like Old Barrel Bottom. The Conemara truly is some distinctive stuff!

Knew the rail had to be a little longer. If ther's any time at all, send it over immediately and I'll put it on them, um, light rail stretcher and get it back to you in two days (looking at the new LRS2500 that stretches light rails faster but it's hard to justify the $quarter mil right now :) ).

I guess your M4's have the sling adaptor that sorta clamps around the barrel under the front sight? One roll pin and it can accidentally "fall off" and be out of the way. They are better than the factory swivel but still don't give a perfect top-hang.

Thanks again for what you're doing, Jim, be careful, and...... do and learn what you can about making this all better.

Jim, it is an honor for me to be in the association of one like you.

Please let me know what I can do to make your time in Hadjiland a little better, and it will be done.

My best wishes to you, your troops and your families.

Stay low - move slow.

Respectfully, Tim

Be safe! We are damn proud of all of you over there.

Here is some of the best advice I ever got when I was there " if it feels wrong, it is wrong." This advice has helped many come home safe.

I'm going to go slighty off subject. Hopefully the Captain will experience this and relate it to us, but the people over there truly do love us, and they are sure glad we are there. Don't believe the media (hopefully none of you do). Both the Stan and Iraq are way better off, and any average citizen there will tell you so.

Captain, you are doing a good thing over there, be proud of it and let us know how things go. I don't suppose they let you take a 1911 instead of that damn M9?
