I posted this over at USN, please forgive me for not adding to it as it is too difficult for me to type as of yet. When I speak of the friendships I have forged at USN, the same holds true here at LTW. Both of these fine forums are like my extended family. In fact, I received more phone calls and well wishing from members of LTW and USN that I have from my co-workers. This surgery marks the first time I have undergone a major surgery for a on-duty injury inwhich I was not even visited by the Captain of my Division; to his credit it was a bad week for him, but the courtesy of a phone call would have been appreciated. I was visited by a Deputy Chief, whom I have admired and worked for several years. He is a testament to leadership and one of those individuals that you would go to the end of the earth for if he asked you to (rant off!).

As I sit, lay, and walk during my recovery from back surgery, I have a tendency to ponder USN, LTW, and the people and friendships I have forged here. I cherish all of my firendships here and love the camraderie; it just feels like home to me. I was very moved by Eric and Mare's gesture of giving me a Toxic Cane to help me move around. I use it every day and am constantly reminded of my friendships and brotherhood.

As I sat here today reading the LA Times article on Police Civilian John Miller and his faux paux at LAX, and the fact that he has a CCW, but other civilians with legimate needs were denied the same, the UPS man arrived. I wasn't expecting anything, but I order so much stuff I lose track.

I was totally shocked to find a Strider Chuck Mahwhinney Sniper Knife in the box. Keith Crowder sent it to me with a simple note saying, "John, it won't make the pain go away, but a new knife can't help but make you feel a little better.

Enjoy, Keith,"

Thank you very much for your generosity Keith!! As someone who also suffers from a bad back, you know the anquish and the hardships it can cause. You have certainly made me feel alot better with your generous gift. Thank you very much, you have certainly made my day, if not my week. It is acts like these that set USN and LTW apart. Keith epitomizes everything that is good about the USN and LTW. Thank you!
