I had assumed if I custom ordered a Nighthawk, it would be fine to post a review of said weapon with pictures. Apparently not. All of my posts have been deleted with NO comments/explanations from the moderators.

I believe I've followed the rules of this forum and have conducted myself as a gentleman. I do realize I don't pay for bandwidth and it's not my forum. However, I believe there's a certain understood social contract if you will on posts being censored and this is not how I would operate nor do most other moderators in practice.

Truely sorry if I offended anyone. Can't do anything about my plebian preferences. I PMed a well known smith on this site but his quote to match a Nighthawk was more than I was willing to spend and the folks at Nighthawk were fast, polite, and delivered the goods.

Maybe you should have PM'd a Mod before posting the above and given them a reasonable amount of time to respond, posting a public grievance isn't cool...this isn't other forum boards BTW

True, and there are no subforums for "semi customs" or "factory customs".
There are other boards for that kind of gun. The focus here is intentionally narrow, something we're reluctant to apologize for.

Occasionally posts do slip by and last awhile that are out of place, but it isn't the norm, nor will it be. Sorry if that offends - it's just not what we're about.

In addition, complaints of any nature are best handled privately. It's just proper etiquette.

I should have approached a moderator privately, my mistake. I didn't follow that etiquette and the common etiquette of removing an offending post and leaving a note as to why it was moved was not followed by the moderator.

I apologize for making this public.

LL,
No sweat. Your review was very good. I hope you understand that when we started the LTW site we were trying to be very narrow. There are just so many forums that cover the semi-custom realm and what we were trying to do is concentrate on the custom houses. Hope you continue to contribute to the site.
Steve

Not to stir the pot, but I am truly interested in the thread, but since its gone, hard for me to say.

The question that remains, how does a individual nighthawk spec'ed out by the customer, make its way into a "semi-custom" realm of classification? Doesn't nighthawk always advertise, pretty well, that they will build anyone whatever they want?

Im truly intrigued. :?

ETA: Especially when there are active threads on Les Baer pistols. Among many more when you search for Les Baer.

I'll PM you with another location of the review.

I've noticed the other manufacturers posts as well. That Les Baer review is far less detailed than my own with less custom options than I ordered.

I've received no less than 4 PMs in 2 days requesting the location of the review. Here it is http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=16094

Please let me know if I am breaking this forum's rule of conduct by doing this and I'll edit this post.

Nice post, and well written - ironic, however that the banner above it reads " this forum brought to you by Nighthawk Custom". Not your doing, of course - just an inescapable inference.

There's a home for everyone along the information superhighway - enjoy your ride. Just be mindful where you stop to take a leak. :)

I have been wrestling with myself(it hurts) on whether to say anything on this subject. My 2cents usually gets me in trouble both here and with the with

But, I must agree with LL, just in the Custom Guns froum alone there are numerous threads people have started asking for parts on standard guns like CZs, parts on 1911s, and a thread on a Les Bear ordered to a customers specs. These are there and not deleted. Now, I have not seen the Nighthawk thread nor do I know any history behind it or the author, but it hardly seems like fair play to me.

I was thinking somewhat the same (both the opinion, and that I should keep my mouth shut).
I don't own either a Baer or a Nighthawk, so can't say whether either is "more custom" than the other.
But, I also understand that it is meant to be a rather exclusive forum, and appreciate that intent.

Of course, the hard part is defining "custom". Depending on the point of view, it could be starting with "raw" frame/slide/barrel and building a top end gun...or, to others, it might be an SA Mil-Spec with the sights replaced.
Where does one draw the line? Someone is going to disagree.
I'm glad there is a line, but am mostly just glad I don't have to draw that line.

I think drawing the line is fine but some transparency in the editing/deleting would be good instead of a post disappearing and the poster having to investigate for himself what happened. That way we can all learn what is on track with the aims of this forum and what isn't. Perhaps an edited post saying "edited due to content conflicting with stated mission of LouderthanWords forum" or something like that.

Since my post was deleted there was a post asking "what's the deal with Kimber external extractors?" I responded to it, advising the poster it was clearly not on topic with custom pistols in the slightest way. What happened? The entire thread disappeared. The same poster is the one asking about CZ parts as referenced above. Does he know he's breaking the rules here? I doubt it.

Maybe we need a couple more moderators since both of the moderators who contacted me pointed out they work full time during the day and sometimes there's a breakdown in communications (neither of them knew who deleted my post). I will say a sticky at the top of each forum declaring what is and isn't acceptable subject matter in rather broad terms would be a good idea.

I know the exact man for the job as moderator too. Stephen Camp. He's already registered here, he moderates on at least 3 forums that I'm aware of, and he is a gentleman of the utmost integrity. I can't say enough good things about the man.

As I thought about this.
I do not think this should be made a major issue. This forum is unique unto itself. Its not a perfect world, but nothing I believe is done with malice.

One big reason I think they tend to see a post, delete it and move on is the fact that these guys are pro gunsmiths and not sit in front of computer guys. So maybe you have a point. But that takes control away from them. Maybe they don't want to lose that. So I just put it all in perspective to life and the world.

Hope you stay here. It still is a great site with good people doing good things.
Al

I'm staying. I've made some constructive suggestions and I believe things will even out anyway. There's too many gentleman on this forum compared to the yahoos on other forums and the weapons and knowledge here are wonderful.
