Chris,
I dont take the best pics yet, but the best advice I got when first trying to take gun pics it get a tripod.

I find I get much better, clearer pics when I don't try in introduce light but try to let the camera bring in more light. What I mean by that is just use a little light to light the piece and then use the shutter speed and F-stop to adjust your exposure. With the shutter speed way down you cannot hold the camera it has to be rock steady.

Hopefully someothers will chime in with some more tips that we all can learn from.

Dan

In addition to what Dan told you, use your macro setting. Whenever I'm shooting those cool, close detail shots, the macro mode helps me ensure crisp shots.

Along with the tripod recommendation, I would add using your remote to trip the shutter. If you don't have a remote, use the camera's self timer or a cable release with an 'old fashioned' camera. It really is essential that the camera not move at all.

Lastly, get some good 'props'. Even though they may or may not be visable or in focus in your shots, an interesting background really makes a difference in those 'glamour shots'. Just look at some of the sexy shots in Am. Handgunner and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Yeah Mark....speaking of sexy gun pron pictures, isn't it about time you taunt the rest of us with some more pictures of your beauties? Even if they are of some of your collectables, not just customs....always gives me something good to grumble about and admire at the same time!! :P

I'll see what I can do. I just got a nice little SP101 back from Marc Marganti (Gemini Customs) and have been meaning to snap some pics.

I'm also waiting for my anniversary present to come back from southern Arizona. As soon as it comes home, I'll be photographing!

Hey Mark-

While you're at it, throw in some more of the old books and stuff for props. More old banking stuff would be cool.

I'll see what I can come up with. I used some of my best old banking stuff on the Hi-Power shots.
